Why is it everyone forgets our military? Airlines should run full page ads saying:

" All armed U. S. Military members fly free -- Show us your loaded weapon at the ticket counter."

I still think the safest and best option is to give every passenger a fully charged tazer as they come aboard. I do not think very many people are up to facing down 200+ armed passengers.

I wanna carry this on my next flight!

Fine by me. I'll be happy with just a little singleshot:

Military are not allowed to take issue weapons home. While many of them think themselves well trained, their pitiful lack of skill at arms becomes apparent when they try for a concealed carry permit. There are exceptions to this statement but sadly too few exceptions.

Love the 2nd ammendment but how long would it be before a gun-toting passenger got irritated at the yahoo that put his seat back to far spilling coke on the gun-packing passenger... think air rage, similar to road rage. The guns would inevitably get misused. The liberal media would have a field day upon the first instance.

"An Armed Society is a Polite Society". Contrast N.Y.C. to Miami, FL. We all know how drivers act in N.Y. In Miami, folks are a bit calmer because most drivers are armed. Those of us that carry are not goofy gun slingers with derringers and .22 pocket pistols. The overwhelming majority of us own state of the art weapons and are trained to a much higher degree than law enforcement. In fact, I was speaking to a local cop and they were limited to 100 rounds per month for practice and the department was complaining about that. I order ammo in 1000 round cases every month or so. A fellow CCW friend and I were laughing at the Air Marshal qualification shooting test, pretty simple by our shooting standards. Furthermore, I've been through no less than 3 FBI background checks in maintaining my CCW permit, few airport employees have been through such screening. In addition, I, by birthright as an American, am deputized to defend my life & liberty and the only difference between me and a LEO, is that I am not paid so I do not have a DUTY to uphold the law.

Air Marshal Shooting Qualification Test
Sorry, I haven't got the knack of getting tabbed columns to work out.

All of the shot stages below are performed at seven yards.
Individual Stage:: Start Position:: Time Allowed:: Total Rounds

1 Round (2X):: From concealed holster:: 1.65 sec (3.30 total):: 2

Double Tap (2X):: Low Ready:: 1.35 sec (2.70 total:: 4

Rhythm::; shoot 6 rounds at 1 target;
no more than 0.6 second
between any shot.
Low Ready:: 3.00 sec:: 6

1 Shot, speed
reload, 1 shot (2X):: Low Ready:: 3.25 sec (6.50 total):: 4

One Round each
at two targets three
yards apart (2X):: Low Ready:: 1.65 sec (3.30 total):: 4

180° pivot. One
round at each of
3 targets (2X).
Turn left, then
right.:: From concealed holster:: 3.50 sec (7.00 total):: 6

1 Round; to
slide lock; drop
to one knee;
reload; fire
1 round. (2X):: Low Ready:: 4.00 sec (8.00 total):: 4

Qualification details:

1. Time: Cannot exceed total time for each drill. Example: Drill #1 - 1st time 1.70 seconds, 2nd time 1.55 seconds; Total = 3.25 seconds =Go.
Must achieve a "GO" on each drill stage.

2. Accuracy: Target is FBI "QIT" (bottle). Total rounds fired is 30.
Point value inside bottle = 5. Point value touching line or outside bottle= 2. Maximum possible score = 150. Minimum qualifying score = 135.

3. All stages are shot "cold"-- with no warm-up or practice. Come to the range, walk to the targets and begin the stages.
All stages must equal "GO" to qualify. If you don't qualify, you don't fly!

Dear Widow, I suppose you would feel better if the terrorists crashed the plane into the Super Bowl and killed 50,000 more people than were on the airplane?

You didn't read my words. If the terrorists couldn't get into the cockpit, how could they crash the plane?

Bats. Issue every passenger a bat.

I've thought from the beginning that putting a billy club in the pocket with the plane diagram, magazine, overpriced catalog, and barf bag would do ten times more for security than anything that's actually been done.

Oh, yeah, a device that generates a massive electrical discharge is just the thing to have on an airplane....

It sounds rediculous, but the funny thing is... it would work. Somehow need to keep them out of the hands of four year olds, though. That would be a problem.

What good are they, then? You just can can't get reliable perps these days; just don't make 'em like they used to. What's the world coming to?
