"I do most anxiously wish to see the highest degrees of education given to the higher degrees of genius and to all degrees of it, so much as may enable them to read and understand what is going on in the world and to keep their part of it going on right; for nothing can keep it right but their own vigilant and distrustful superintendence." --Thomas Jefferson to Mann Page, 1795. ME 9:30

Concerning institutions of men "distrustful superintendence" is far healthier than "blind faith".

But I am a Washingtonian, not a Jeffersonian.

Jefferson promoted the founding of a newspaper for the sole purpose of running political hit stories on President Washington, and the Federalists led by Hamilton. He financed the editor to write these hit pieces surreptitiously, and didn't do it in the open but rather like Hillary, backstabbing.

Is this why you like Jefferson so much? Or is it that the champion of freedom did not believe in freedom for his own slaves that enamours you of him so much?

"Thanks. The media will only report the sections they want the public to hear and ignore the rest."

I know. The administration is presumably smart enough to know that too. Why are there sections in the report that are damaging?

Predicting that Rocky mountain meadows and coastal marshes are going to disappear is not a smart move in my opnion. Thats giving the enviro wackos way too much amunition. Watch as they run with this.

In 1989, the southeastern coast - Georgia & N. Florida - had the first white Christmas, if not in recorded history, in about 100 years.

If that's global warming, it's kind of interesting! :)

I did get some humor from the locked thread when you posted "Global Warming Science=creation science", which was, of course, bass-ackwards. Global Warming=the evolution fairy tale. Global-warming is brought to us by the same academic leftist intellectuals who bring us evolution, cramming it down our throats to support their Marxist social philosophy. Now they must have global warming to support their social agenda. Conservatives are fighting junk science, be it 19th century fantasies about man descending through monkies from primordial ooze (through a series of missing links, of course---and don't ask why), or this global warming crap which is needed to return us to the Left's desired state of the 19th century Luddite or the 20th century Unabomber or Gore-ite.

it's a good thing to question and a good thing to debate. i don't understand why that is always labeled bush bashing by some here.

You don't know what you are talking about on drilling the Gulf Outer Continental Shelf. The announcement last week regarding the Destin Dom gas field is old news. Those leases are from the 80s. The leaseholders filed suit in July 2000, before Bush was elected.

On the other hand, Bush was able to get a part of Area 181 in Florida's waters opened. Those leases were sold last December. Six companies, 92 leases, generating $315 million.

House rebuffs Bush's drilling efforts in Gulf

Gosh! I've LEARNED MY LESSON, NOW! I'm SOOOOO Sorry, and you know what? The BUSHIES HAVE CONVINCED ME! Anyway, it's like the Bushies say so politely, why, hardly anyone ever goes to the Drudge Report anymore, because like the Bushies say, Drudge is just picking on Bush just like he picked on Clinton. I mean, why would anyone check out the Drudge Report when they can go to the Bushies website (www.prayforbush.com) and look at clap-snaps of Bush and Laura? The cool thing about www.prayforbush.com is, you don't even have to read, you just stare at those photos, like, here's Bush walking a dog! Hey! There one of Bush with Daddy "I'm quitting the N.R.A." Daddy Bush! Cool! Anyway, the real issue isn't issues, the real issue is which day are we on with the Pray for Bush choreography?

Right on the money! It is already over! The Constitution was undone 89 years ago. We have been inching toward socialism for so long, the Bush-lickers, Republican pom-pom squad, and the rest of the sheople don't even recognize that it has arrived. They have have literally been "boiled" along with the proverbial frog.

There are different routes to socialism. Our state used "democracy" as its vehicle. Yes, tyranny of the majority, where Rights have been exchanged for privileges and where people can vote to steal the property of others is the M.O. used in this country. Karl Marx and Fidel Castro took a different route, but makes no difference -- we all arrived at the same place.

People can NEVER, EVER hang on to freedom. Too many are to stupid!

The main saving grace about your posts is that you don't discuss real issues. If you did, that would probably be even more spoilative of this forum, as a guess.

Thanks Freedom, I like your handle. Anybody remember the Bill of Rights?

In part, Buffalo Scout Bush is counting on his peers at the New York Times and supporters in the Democratic Party to give him the ballyhoo he needs in the days, hours, and closing minutes prior to his big speech he's gonna' give at the United Nations regarding global warming, so he wants to set the stage for his moment. Ultimately, the whole Bush thing is Global and Global Warming is a "Bush told you so" kind of thing, it still comes down to the neat-o strategery of

Buffaloism

(now the official doctrine of Buffalo Bushies) that this whole global warming thing, I mean - think about it - it's something that distinguishes Bush from the same old equivocation. We still go the abortion issue, maybe, so it's cool, never mind everything else.

Bill Clinton is making the rounds (you know, BUSH SURE SOUNDS a LOT LIKE WHAT CLINTON is SAYING, do they TRADE NOTES?) and has been getting up here and there and talks about all the reasons the people should love Bill Clinton, and his wife is the elected official, not him, but Clinton's thing is still doing the doggy as a self-envisioned keynote speaker to hammer the message home of how global he is, and, hey! Bush just wants to learn from the competition and try to be Clintonist as possible! Like the Bushies say, this whole Global Warming Official Release, it's OLD NEWS, real old, goes back to when Bush was runnin' for office, so what's the big deal that it comes out now? And since it's OLD NEWS with the Bush Administration, all that means is that Bush was saying one thing during the campaign, but all the long he planned on doing another thing. So, it's cool. And the cool thing about all this government power stuff is, forget the terrorism thing, the thing is if anyone is critical about Bush than the Bushies can have them arrested or something, because they sure like to make a lot of threats.

Bush has his 2004 campaign theme all ready now - we have to vote for Bush to save a starving child. The whole Bush agenda in action is now the boiler plate operation, it's the same thing either way Bush or Gore, but remember the only difference, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, is that Bush is a Republican.

Thanks Dubya, what a speech. The "Bush Doctrine". Too bad it didn't mean anything.

Global. Global warming, and Islam is a religion of peace. Thanks for the hope of all the things to come, Bush, such as the free universal health care, guaranteed universal employment and universal retirement paid for with generous universal social security checks.

HEY! I got a tax refund from BUSH! WOW! Sure, it was really a "cash advance", but I HAVE NO DOUBT, I'm gonna' get that MIDDLE CLASS TAX CUT real soon! It just rocked the nation to think of all those free universal freebies to come. You brought tears to the eyes of basset hounds across America as, in your own unadorned and rudimentary way of ordinary speaking, you actually got chubby with Ted Kennedy, McCain, Arafat (hey! Isn't the Chairman inviting the Hamas to be part of his Administration? Don't let him beat you to the punch, George, invite the Hamas to be part of your Administration FIRST!), and we can throw Aunt Harriet a piece of her corn dog to the hound when she was distracted by your visionary oratory of universal public schools thanks to your Education bill. I know, you don't want to take all the credit, Mr. President, Ted helped you a lot.

And, did I forget? Universal brotherhood? And (why not?), free universal British nannies, maybe? Finally after 50 plus years of incremental socialism, there is this one Democrat, opps, I mean Republican Bush, who will at last deliver on all the things Joe Lieberman mentioned in that speech he pulled out from under the panel cover of that 1948 Buick that some rich ol' "Uncle" Remus drove to the 52 Democratic Convention, the faded, yellowed and torn twelve pager that was typed up on a Royal Typewriter and sat under that panel cover of that 1948 Buick for 50 years, the one that was signed "Fred" and stamped "Delegate: Louisiana". Dust it off, and we got a bridge to the next Century.

Yeah, I know, I made a lot of Bushies real mad, talking about things, pre-911, like maybe Bush is spending too much time running around with Vicente Fox and not paying attention to the Islamic terrorists, and stupid things like our borders and stuff ... gosh, it was a real distraction to try to discuss stuff like that, a distraction from those real issue orientated Bushies and their "Laura and Bush stepping off an airplane" photos, and stuff. Gosh, I'm sorry. I guess I'm just a conservative nut or something, like those goof-balls Drudge and the others who, heck, considering the mean things they said about Bush, it would have been probably better for history if they never even had a website at all. I know Clinton would agree.

WIll you forgive me? PLEASE!?!

No, I quite enjoy your "conservative" nut rants, precisely because they are nuts, and thus totally ineffective. Some Bushies are less tolerant of nuts than I am. I doubt in any event that you are a conservative. You are more likely a Patster protectionist type, or some other paleo or unusually juvenile libertarian mutation. I can't be more specific since you have been below my radar screen until now. Are you a sleeper poster, or have you been around forever, and just escaped my notice?

Hey, dontcha think you're being a little hard on dubya? Afterall, he's just a puppet; don't blame him. He gets his marching orders from the real rulers of the world. That's why it doesn't matter what he promises when he's running for office -- once there, he'll be a good little system-player and do as he's told. Good boy, dubya!

Hey Torie. Why don't you spend a little time refuting rather than insulting and trying to pigeon-hole conservatives who feel differently than you do. Your and stinkspurs lack of objectivity makes your position look even weaker than it is.

Keep up the good work Brian. You're right on target. It is shameful that Bush and his administration have come out with this report that accepts human activity as a major cause of Global Warming, and further accepts its wild predictions of calamity.

Time for conservatives to start preparing to oppose Bush in the next Republican primaries. It's important that we do this now before Bush and his handlers come up with a straw-man opponent.

I'm not a Constitution scholar so my question might have been asked and answered.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Concerning the first amendment, why would it begin with the subject of religion? The ability to assemble and a recourse for redress of grievances? Do you think the first amendment covers all forms of speech or mainly that in regards to religion?

I will do further study but I'm interested in your interpretation.

Actually sinkspur, it is you who is debunked over and over again. You and a very few Bush-washed disruptors think that if you overload these threads with your inane and unobjective comments and name calling that it somehow means that your position is right (and it's hard to tell what your position is other than being pro-you and anti-anyone else).

Lighten up and pretend that you believe that others have a right to differ with you. Who knows? You might even learn something new.
