The U.S. government has alerted airlines and law enforcement agencies that new intelligence indicates that Islamic terrorists have smuggled shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles into the United States.

Classified intelligence reports circulated among top Bush administration policymakers during the past two weeks identified the missiles as Russian-made SA-7 surface-to-air missiles or U.S.-made Stinger anti-aircraft missiles obtained covertly in Afghanistan, said intelligence officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Flight 800 was shot down. you know it, i know it

TWA800 damage was consistent with a fuel/air explosion in the main fuel tank. Missile explosions have a high velocity signature -- which was not found in the fuel-tank area. You might want to believe TWA800 was shot down, but the damage evidence would be inconsistent with that.

Shoulder fired SAM's smuggled into the U.S....and they are just now admitting that it is a possibility? IT WAS A POSSIBILITY 10 YEARS AGO!

Be afraid, very afraid. Not from missle wielding terrorists but from the incompetent idiots who claim to protect us.

This smacks of AYBBTU.

In A.D. 2002
War was beginning.
Captain: What happen ?
Mechanic: Somebody set up us the bomb
Operator: We get signal
Captain: What !
Operator: Main screen turn on
Captain: It's You !!
Cats: How are you gentlemen !!
Cats: All your base are belong to us
Cats: You are on the way to destruction
Captain: What you say !!
Cats: You have no chance to survive make your time
Cats: HA HA HA HA ....
Captain: Take off every 'zig'
Captain: You know what you doing
Captain: Move 'zig'
Captain: For great justice

So, The FIB which poo-pooed the idea that TWA 800 was hit by a missle, now says that terrorists have missles capable of doing just that.

What's Tom Ridge's color code for this?

Please make sure to hold onto this thread so that when a plane falls out of the sky and they blame engine failure we can point to this warning.

Very true. The Bush administration may not have known all that much before Sept 11, but they are responsible for what happens next if their policies didn't prevent it, like leaving the borders open and even contemplating opening them all the more and not going after Middle Eastern foreigners and deporting illegals.

Whitehouse knew about it when it happened because the President's staff was watching the Navy operations on closed circuit TV.

You've been watching too many movies. Believe what you what about TWA 800, but the President and his pals don't sit around watching military tests on TV.

Well, it was shot down, now lets hear what our beloved leaders have to say today!

Where is Clinton and his wife today?

Will she say he never told her the truth?

Will he dare ever come out in public?

What about Bush and crew?

Why did they sit on it?

OK. So....when are they going to come out and say that TWA800 was definitely shot down like we all know it was. 13,500 feet is in range.

Only for a Stinger, in perfect condition (read: not after sitting around with zero maintenance for seven years prior to being fired), and even then it's borderline. It wouldn't be a "streak" by the time it reached Flight 800, either; the sustainer motor would have long since burned out.

My personal favorite that explains the center-of-mass hit on a 747: the RBS-70. It's made in Sweden, exported everywhere. It's laser-guided, and it's team-portable, meaning it's big enough to reliably reach 13,500 (the motor is still going, as well).

If the person trying to smuggle the manpad was an 80 year white lady with a walker, I have full confidence that the airport security would catch her at least 3 times out of 7.

If it was a young Middle Eastern male with a fake passport, the odds drop to 1 out of 1000.

Al Quaida does not just buy a weapon and fire it off at the first opportunity.....They will go for maximum chance of success plus maximum impact.

Exactly. These scumbags have a remarkable level of patience.

"And while you're at it, think about all those trucks and trains carrying nuclear reactor waste thru cities all across this country on its way to Yucca Mtn. Denver, Omaha, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, etc. etc. etc. Las Vegas has video of a spent fuel tank being punctured by a hand held, despite the gov propaganda saying it is soooooooooo safe. "

At least as safe as leaving it in 130 scattered locations around the country, guarded in some states with people equipped with pump shotguns.

The officials said the warning is based on intelligence and not a specific threat that the missiles are in the United States.

I interpret this differently than you did. I don't see a contradiction at all. That the missiles are in the US completes the information about the warning. Another way of saying this is: The officials said the warning that the missiles are in the United States is based on intelligence and not (on) a specific threat.

Crud! Seems the next nasty attack will be from a stolen Saudi missile, not Russian. What will Hollywood do? Rewrite about 5 new movies at the last second? And here they are releasing yet another anti-Russian movie today. Hollywood please read: Russia is now a friend at the Nato table.
