She's also indicated that she's pro-gun control.

That wipes the slate of everything else supposedly "conservative" in my book.

Dole Backs Off Gun-Control Position
As a Senate candidate, however, Dole has softened her gun control stance. "In the past, I expressed support for the ban on assault weapons," Dole wrote in a letter last month to the North Carolina Rifle and Pistol Association, an affiliate of the National Rifle Association. "Seven years after President Clinton and his allies outlawed so-called assault weapons, there appears to have been little effect on crime prevention or punishment. What is effective is the Instant Check system. We should stick with what works. We do not need new restrictions on those who already observe the thousands of gun laws on the books."

Dole added, "North Carolina has another common-sense proposal in place: a right-to-carry law that allows citizens to obtain a concealed handgun permit from the local sheriff after being trained and certified."

Campaign spokesman Jay Warshaw said Dole changed her gun-control stance based on states' experience with new laws. "With regard to concealed weapons, she said at the time it's a matter for states to decide," Warshaw said. "Her concerns have been satisfied regarding the North Carolina law."

You have some pretty stringent ideals. One strike and you're out, huh? I'm unsure how you'll ever find a candidate to vote for since the majority have all changed their position on one issue or another in their lifetime. And as for being a carpetbagger. I didn't know that term was applied to some who was born, raised, attended college, and whose family still resides in the same state that she has returned to. Of course, following most of the Freepers logic on this thread it would dictate that no one should ever be allowed to run for office if they've ever moved out of the state no matter the length of time. Please don't take this comment personally, anyone, but I find that to be an unintelligent response with no basis in sound logic.

Liddy Dolt is not a fit replacement for Jesse Helms. When the spineless wimpette (I'm rich therefore a Senate seat is my birthright) is whipped by Erskine Bowles, don't even dare THINK about suggesting that it is the fault of real Republicans. Other than the same old tired Tinkerbell (thanks Clemenza) Trent Lott BS that the really important thing is to have a GOP majority so that coruuption can flow through him,....whoops, so that the Republic will be safe from his precise corrupt counterparts like Daschle, just what is the argument for nominating Dolt who will be influenced by dear hubby to raise taxes whenever possible, will discover that she really is not pro-life or pro-gun after all and will discover that, in fairness, we cannot stop Bruce from marrying Lance and adopting. Puhleeze. I suppose that most Republicans will vote for her on the judicial nominee question but they may be disappointed in the unlikely event that she wins. Hopefully, at her age, she has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. The only gray matter she has ever had is her hair when not dyed. Start finding actual Americans and actual Republicans and actually moral people to run against and defeat Edwards and to prepare the recapture of Helms' Senate seat no matter which of the apprent slime nominees slithers through this year's process. Take the governorship too just in case we get lucky and need to appoint a replacement for Liddy Bowles or Erskine Dolt.

I gotta ask you neoconfederate billbears; do you think Lincoln and Jeff Davis were 2 sith lords in league with each other who engineered the Civil War to gain emergency powers for supreme chacelorr Lincoln and allow him to create a Grand Army of the Republic( well actually "The Grand Army of the Republic" was the Union veterans organization the Union had a Grand Army of the Potomac and West in actuality). LOL.

She will vote Bush's agenda in the unlikely event that the Republicans in North Carolina don't vomit her out by election day but then only so much of Bush's agenda as will not get her disinvited from most fashionable cocktail parties. You know, where the beatiful people hang out. The ones that are younger than her, smarter than her (that's a very big category), more mindlessly wedded to abortion, lavenders, and gun control than even she and to taxes than even her husband. Lott is backing this "outstanding Southern Lady" because she is brainless enough to even support him over Don Nickles in the upcoming contest over the leadership.

Define "we." It depends on what "we" means, doesn't it?

If you actually believe that anyone named Dole will actually resist tax increases (or actually deliver on most of her lying promises you listed), then you, sir or madame, are living proof of P.T. Barnum's famous maxim that there is a sucker born every minute. OK, she isn't Erskine Bowles. Like someone else said, vote for her because we've heard her name.

I can show you even better: an amendment to the United States Constitution that lets me carry a gun - and use it if necessary - without getting permission from the state.

If/when Liddy Dole gets around to understanding what the Constitution is about, she might get my vote. But not before.

Care to defend Lincoln on his violations of the Tenth Amendment? Do you want to defend his anti-Mexican War speech (This chamber stands knee deep in blood) delivered during his one and only Congressional term? George McGovern ripped that speech off without attribution in promoting communist voctory on the floor of the US Senate. Shall we go on?

Ummmm, Liddy Dolt was born in North Carolina to a rich and liberal Demonratic family. Her late dad was one of Lyndon Johnson's greatest contributors. That bought Social Register Liddy a spot on LBJ's White House staff where she joined other Junior Leaguers and many outright socialists in pushing the Great Society and all of the wonderful things associated with it. It is probably true that her transformation to becoming a fifth columnist among Republicans may have been triggered by a residual American principle or even two. The real truth though is that she is what she has always been an aggressively ambitious woman with a trust fund and virtually no principles other than self-aggrandizement and the will to power. Why else marry Bob Dole at his age than to acquire a familiar Republican name however tarnished?

Thus, Liddy is hoping to be a scalawag in her few remaining years.

Yes, the fix is in no doubt. But who is doing the fixing?

Ms Dole completes her recent "eastern swing" by wearing thousand dollar ensembles in counties where unemployment is 10 per cent. She wears Italian designer shoes that cost more than the average Edgecombe, Halifax, or Hertford county family takes home every two weeks. This is not North Carolina -- her race is some kind of surrealistic vision foisted upon the citizens of the state by the RNC and the gnomes of L Street.

The mistake the RNC makes is in thinking the thirty year success known as Jesse Helms has anything to do with them. Senator Helms was/is his own man -- and the conservative Democratic voter recognized the fact.

Ms Dole's stunning defeat in North Carolina will be a political earthquake for the Republican party. Without conservative Democrats "down east" the GOP cannot win a statewide race as has been demonstrated countless times. Sure, Bob Dole will address the convention Saturday in New Bern -- much to the (rightful) dismay of Jim Snyder, Dr Parker, and Dr Fisher -- but he will be preaching to the RINO choir.

Because, you see, the conservatives in the party won't be showing up this weekend just like they won't be there for the Empress in November.

"Senator Erskine Bowles" -- best get used to it.

J

The one bad thing I know about Helms is he screwed over Weld( Weld was a good guy believe me). Other than that Helms was a good man and this RINO is no fit replacement.

Okay if this is true I'm convinced she is pure evil.

Let's see you two are condemning her more than anything based on her last name and her parents choices in life. If the rest of the voters in NC have the same level of intelligence and maturity this state is going to hell in a handbasket real fast. Of course, BlackElk, you live in Illinois, don't you have enough of your own candidates to worry about without trashing others from other states?

Please show me a candidate who has never changed his position on an issue. Remember this is politics we are talking about and candidiates change their stance very often when they enter politics.

I feel for you both. Both states have worse problems politically than we do here.

That all I need to know. Liddy the RINO would be better off with a jockstrap for support instead of Tinkerbell Trent.

LOL! Couldn't have put it better myself!!!
