A week's worth 9-11 smear-mongering by leading Democrats and their media handmaidens has failed to dent President Bush's popularity, according to the latest CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll.
More than three-quarters of those surveyed gave Bush a positive job approval rating, despite an onslaught of politically motivated accusations that administration officials failed to connect the dots on intelligence data that could have forewarned of the 9-11 attacks.
Sixty percent of those surveyed said the information available before the attacks would not have been enough for administration officials to have predicted what was coming.
Nineteen percent said the Bush administration made "an understandable mistake."
Only 23 percent agreed that Bush officials made "a serious error" in not reading the tea leaves foreshadowing the attacks.
Leading Democrats began their full-scale assault last Thursday, with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton demanding, "What did the president know?" in advance of Sept. 11.
And while some, like House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, have softened their earlier rhetoric, on Friday Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Joe Lieberman was still invoking Watergate-like phraseology to suggest a 9-11 scandal.
"I don't think the question is the old White House question about what did he know and when did he know it?" Lieberman told radioman Don Imus. "The really more important question, as we look back, is what was he told and when was he told it?"
The CNN-USA Today-Gallup survey polled 1,000 adults between May 20-22 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent.
I couldn't agree more...I see where folks are slamming Limbaugh for chiding Dubyuh for each move to the Left and we get labeled as Bush-Bashers each time we complain about Dubyuh on FR, but he needs to hear the disgust we feel for his willingness to grow the Federal Leviathan!! The GOP is right to want to decrease the Size and Scope of the Federal Guv'ment...why should Dubyuh be ashamed to take this argument to the Sheeple?! We need to increase the pressure on Dubyuh to do exactly that before it's too late and his base abandons him and the Republicans in November '02 and '04!!

Bush cannot kick em out and seal our borders right now, (he would forever be a RW extremist,) no matter how bad we are hit. So we are left to sit and wait like ducks...
THIS ticks me off to my very core.
"That's it,the Islamists are there! That is the system. And I'm sure Bin Laden is with them. Set your course for the Saudi system. General Franks, prepare you men.General Veers...BEGIN LANDING YOUR TROOPS"
What are your thought on this?
"It is of no concern, everything is proceeding as planned.
LOL! I must admit, I find his voice, "deeply disturbing" myself! Perish the thought of four years of him!
I disagree if you mean Muslim men that are under scrutiny. I don't think Bush would face any heat at all except from the loony tune left. If you are talking about all illegals then yes, it would be a nightly presentation of the infamous "Elian,JBT" photo. That is not about to happen.
Actually, Israel is in a Police State mode and they still can't keep the terror attacks from occurring, so to believe we could would be the height of naivete. Still, we could also die in a car wreck, a plane wreck or slipping in the tub, so to overreact and significantly curtail our day-to-day activities would be to allow the terrorists to win without firing a shot.
"Clinton did alot of this with his corruption and secret spy ring in our fed agencies. None of our intel is (was) on the same page PLUS they were (are) corrupt."
Actually, I agree with you on a number of levels here...Clinton is directly responsible for 9/11 due to his unwillingness to react to previous terror attacks, his emasculation of the CIA, FBI, INS and our Military intelligence and firepower, and because of Slick Willie's lawlessness in massacring the Kosovar Serbs the same way he massacred the innocents at Waco. The hypocrisy of a lowlife mass-murderin' rapist like Clinton leading a War Against Terrorism would have been too bizarre for anyone to swallow, IMHO.

Even if we initiated a Police State tomorrow, we could not guarantee against another attack, it's simply impossible. Still, that doesn't mean we're sitting ducks by a long shot. We do have some very able lawmen looking into the Terror Cells that dot our Nation (see also Map in #115), and we haven't been struck in almost nine months despite our whackin' the Hell outta the Muslim terrorists overseas.

Our entire political system was based on the dominance of the centerdeTocqueville noted this phenomenon. Comparing it to European politics, he understood that its source was "universal" suffrage (for those days, that is). He held that unless a majority actually voted for its leaders, leaders would assume or pretend they had a majority where they did not. That is, in the absence of a clear mandate, subterfuge results. Thus Europe is damned to forever cut and paste coalitions and personalities.
In America, the two-party system's requirement that there be a majority (particularly in Congress, as presidential elections go through cycles of party realignments and bolts) means that the parties fight it out exactly along those lines you describe: that 2-5 point sway in the middle.
The only one (of this map-on our soil) the -Barney Fife FBI- managed to nab was foiled. If it is only the leftists and the human rights weirdos that would scream if he booted em out and sealed our borders to any more of any potential terrorist, then why is he not doing it? He seems to have the gonads, why is he not?
I believe it is because of our CIA/Immigration/FBI laws and politically correct standards. As crazy as it sounds these terroristss have rights and if a President usurped this in the name of national security before the next horrific event would he lose votes?
Did you read the link in post # 115 with the map? I don't know at this date about any law enforcement doing anything but seriously tapping and monitoring/AKA- guessing about sudden incoming/outgoing chatter.
The link in post # 115 has the terrorists proclaiming a religion as their front. There main funds may have been nixed somewhat but they are still here and dangerous with rights to form and meet and plan like any American. I see us playin cat n mouse games not acting in wartime, or else they would have been thrown out altready-political correctness or not.
Sealing our borders (to all non American incoming without impeccable Visa's) after the terrorists expulsions is feasible and far from a police state.
No I did not draw them. But I did via e-mail receive posting permission from the talented drawers.
LOL, this is wonderful. Thanks Mud.
As many threads and posts have said (and even Clinton) they knew but could do nothing but wait and see, because the American people would not stand for long lines at an airport... loss of freedom... etc...
What is the difference now? If a dem (Gore) were President would we be in martial law right now? Probably. But Bush needs to tighten up a little more defense wise and clean up the federal agencies, is all I am saying.
We still are not in stand down from being guarded by air 24/7. We are numb and lazy as a country and won't stand for anything less than WWIII before we cease our spoiled 401 K's/Hollywood awards shows/vacations/TV/soccer and mini van/BMW driving.
Funny yet profoundly sad thing is; we are so numb, desensitized and spoiled selfish, we don't know we are in WWIII.
interesting you should say this. i just visited my old college, The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. it is/was maybe the most liberal of liberal colleges on the west coast. i went to a party there on thursday night while on vacation. room full of dreadlock hippies and a women with buzz-cuts and tatoos. i'm thinking "geeze if i start talking about conservative politics here they're gonna throw those huge joints at me"
well i was totally surprised, when ALL of them (sans one) including the post-punk feminists, actually were very receptive to what i was saying, and even agreed with me on the parts about government getting to be too big on the spending and all that. it was a totally different crowd than when i went there 10 years ago; i would dare call them moderately conservative. i think there are a few loud yappy liberals left, but i think for the most part the college now generation is more conservative than the "gen-x" bunch.
