This is what gets me too... a SAWED OFF shotgun??? Illegal in most places I know. And he takes it to the airport... ummmm in case someone makes fun of his turban? That's his story and he's sticking to it

Not only that, it was a sawed off shotgun. Late May in New Orleans is not coat wearing weather. He might have had it in a bag or suitcase. In an airport, a man carrying a duffle-bag would not seem out of place

People were making fun of his turban. After hearing this I will never call one "towel head" again, though I might occasionally call one "pull start"
The guys with the red dot on their forhead I may still call "push start".

Ok, ok. But not to their faces.

Bump. The Logic-Free Zone, which only used to be inside the Washington Beltway, has unfortunately expanded...

This is what gets me too... a SAWED OFF shotgun??? Illegal in most places I know. Depends on length. If the barrel (muzzle to closed breech face) is over 18" long and the overall length (muzzle to furthest extension, measured parallel to the bore axis) is over 26", the firearm is legal whether it was manufactured at its current length or "sawed off" from something larger.
Depending upon the length of the magazine tube, it may not be practical to saw a pump shotgun much below 18". Any pump shotgun which meets the 18" requirement will almost certainly meet the 26" requirement even if the stock is sawed off completely, since point of the rearmost bolt travel must be at least 3" behind the breech face and the firing mechanism is almost always located behind that.

"That old Johnny Cash song, "Leave your guns at home, Bill, Don't take your guns to town..." I thought that was Kenny Rogers in 'Ruby'. "Don't take your love to town."

He had it in a tube in his duffel bag.

Lee told a gathering of reporters that the man said he fired because people in the airport were making fun of his turban. And the fact that he happened to have his shotgun with him at the airport was just a funny coincidence....

Those dumba**es in the media know nothing about guns, so they probably just used the term "sawed off" because it has more shock effect. He may have had it fitted with a rear pistol grip. Had one for my Winchester 1200 12ga. But they made them illegal so I had to take it off.
If so, it would look as though it were "sawed off" to a novice.

I sure do wish they had gotten a picture of him in the turban! No matter how hard I try, I just can't picture him in a turban with the rest of that outfit. I'm sure I would have been snickering, too, if I had seen him .... it must have been quite a sight.
Prayers for the ladies injured in this shooting!

I was at the same ticket counter (Southwest airlines) just moments before the shooting ocurred. Although I heard the single shot, I was not able to determine what happened until I spoke with some people who saw it happen. The gun did jam before firing, and although this Kook had to be close to 300 pounds, long stringy hair, unkept and unshaven, a bystander kept this jerk from firing again. Moments later several people assisted in the "take down". Police were very responsive...within minutes.
I highly doubt the employees or other passengers made fun of this guy - simply based on his size and demeanor.
