This is exactly why I have been on my soapbox and screaming that we have to check people before they get into the terminal. We need checks at the perimeter. If it were a bomb, he would have killed many people. By the time someone gets to a machine to be x-rayed, he is in a position to do a great amount of damage. So? Unless we're going to check everyone, everywhere an airport terminal is no better target than anywhere else, like a restaurant or a movie theater.

A man police identified as Patrick Gott, 43, of Pensacola, Fla., is led from Louis Armstrong International Airport Wednesday evening May 22, 2002, in Kenner, La. The suspect allegedly fired a shotgun in the lobby of the airport injuring two people, telling investigators that he fired because people made fun of his turban. (AP Photo/Bill Haber)

I think we need to recruit a Sikh regiment for the U.S. Army, like the Brits used to have their Gurkas. Twenty years service, and they retire back to India on a King's pension in local money. They don't get along with Muslims, they've got a strong martial cultural heritage, and I think they work well at altitude. It's a no-brainer, but our leaders are not doing well on no-brainers lately, from what I can tell. The British Army still maintains about a 3500-man unit of Gurkhas on the rolls as the Gurkha Regiment, and continues to second promising young officers to that unit after a serious training course in Ghorkhali language, customs and tradition. Though their numbers are decreased considerably from the days of Empire and the closure of British military facilities in Hong Kong, the Gurkha *Johnnies* continue to serve the Union Jack as effectively as their fathers and grandfathers did. Details *here*, among other places. When I mentioned above that I respect the Sikhs but would not choose to serve with them, impressed though I am with their professionalism and bearing, it was because I would instead serve alongside a Ghurkha unit in preference to any other in the world.
Ayo Gorkhali!!! -archy-/-

I must respectfully disagree. If airports are shut down because one experienced a blast, it will bring air travel to a halt. Can you imagine the economic cost if that happens a second time? A bomb in a restaurant will cause fewer people to go out to eat. A bomb at an airport will shut down every airport.

In an airport? I thought they were banned there. Transportation of unloaded firearms into the baggage-check (and out of the baggage-claim) areas of an airport is legal if the firearms are to be sent as checked baggage. Firearms must be declared, unloaded, and in a locked container; different airlines vary as to their handling rules and procedures.

Seems to Me, profiling is like finding a stolen car. At least They give You a description.

Thanks, I knew that. This guy obviously wasn't going to transport unloaded, cased firearms though. I wonder what his ma said when he took off with the sawed off?

" he was approaching the Southwest ticket counter... he went to pump the gun again and it jammed." " If he does believe in God, this should tell him he's on the wrong side.

That old Johnny Cash song, "Leave your guns at home, Bill, Don't take your guns to town..."
Cheers.

"This dude's name is Patrick Gott and he's a Muslim? Gott means God in German, btw." So this could be the spittin' image of Allah?
