Ajo, Arizona - The Immigration and Naturalization confirms A U.S. Border patrol Agent was fired upon Friday five miles inside the U.S. Border, increasing the calls for citizens to take direct action to halt what a U.S. Border Patrol agent called "an act of war." This is one of 21 border incursions that have taken place over the last year.

According to a U.S. Border Patrol Agent, the Tohono O'odham Police Department encountered a Mexican military incursion on Friday, May 17, 2002 at approximately 8:30 PM along the Santa Cruz trail inside the Papago Farms border patrol area, just south of Forest Road 21.

The unnamed agent spotted three Mexican soldiers in a Mexican Humvee on U.S. soil and was attempting to leave the area when the rear window of his vehicle was apparently shattered by gunfire. "The agent was leaving the area in an effort to avoid a confrontation" with the Mexicans, according to Lori Haley, and INS spokeswoman.

"I cannot in good conscience stand by and watch another incursion along our border take place," said U.S. Rep Tancredo (R-CO). "Unless we open our eyes and recognize that what's happening along the U.S. Mexico border is real, one of our guys is going to get killed.

The U.S. Border Patrol Agent, who wishes to remain anonymous, informed Rep. Tancredo during a phone conversation that approximately five miles north of the U.S./Mexico border, one the "GS-11" agents out of the Ajo border patrol station noticed a military helicopter flying overhead, heading south towards Mexico. Shortly thereafter, he came upon a humvee, which not only began to approach him, but to fire upon his vehicle. According to the agent's testimony, the vehicles rear window and back driver's side windows were destroyed. Fortunately, the agent was able to flee the incursion unharmed and concluded the conversation by stating, "As far as I am concerned, that [incursion] should be an act of war."

With the increase in hostilities now confirmed by the U.S. government, Sierra Times has learned that private citizens are making preparations to deal directly with such incursions in the future. Stay tuned.

This sounds like it would be quite an amusing defense. I am sure that it will be good for millions of laughs.

Who laughed when the militia stood up to the British in 1775?

Or so far as that goes, when some 200-odd Texians stood up to the 6000 troops of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at a crumbling San Antonio chapel called The Alamo after the cottonwood tree standing near it. Of course, I reckon that nowadays, the employment of a serious biowar agent in Mexico City, D.F., say HPAI or anthrax, would have similar results....

"Mexican President Vicente Fox warned the Bush administration May 9 that he could not maintain the close relationship he has had with the United States unless there is progress on resolving immigration issues."

Are these the exact words of Fox or the papers? I'd sort of like to know where this "taco bender" gets off "warning" our president about anything. I guess it's just as well that I am not sitting in the oval office, I can't take a threat or ignore one.

I don't mean to be smug but could you imagine if this happened north of the border?Being a Canadian I would think both sides of the border would be trying to find the person who did this.

Thanks. This issue hasn't come up on my radar until recently, because of the internet.

Yup, I guess this means we should bomb Mexico city with cruise missiles, capture and try the first non-PRI Mexican president in a couple generations for crimes against humanity, etc, and permanently occupy a buffer zone stretching some 100 miles south of the Rio Grande. Woodrow Wilson would approve. Or maybe we could have a more limited war with Border Control agents and banditos exchanging potshots at every opportunity. Anyway, far be it from me to unpatriotically poo-poo any war frenzy that's developing here. Far from it. ra, ra.

You're not smug at all - I wish people on this side of the border would appreciate our Canadian friends. I'll never forget 1979 - the Iran Hostage Crisis, where many Americans were sheltered by the Canadian Embassy in Tehran, at great risk to the Canadians.

Also the fact that Canada recently lost four of its fine military men during a "friendly fire" incident in Afghanistan.

And I was ashamed when I heard that sports fans in Detroit had booed the Canadian national anthem.

If ONLY Mexico were as good a friend and neighbor to the United States as is Canada.

I first ran across that song in 1961, and spent the next forty years trying to find it again.

Finally did, a few months ago. Thanks to WinMX.

Sung by Johnny Horton, as I recall.

Chief Border Agent for this district was on O'Reilly show tonight and said that it was HIS man that got shot at and it was most likely because many members of the Mexican army make extra money by acting as protectors of the drug cartels.

He said his man was almost killed...........the bullets blew the rear window out but were deflected by the barrier behind the drivers compartment used to hold prisoners.

"If ONLY Mexico were as good a friend and neighbor to the United States as is Canada"

We as Canada have never had a war with the USA.We have the largest undefended border.Alot of us have relatives in both countries.I do see the petty anti Americanism here but when you confront the average person they say ya most of the world is bad but America is worse than us because we got "free"(if you don't die waiting for it)health care.

"And I was ashamed when I heard that sports fans in Detroit had booed the Canadian national anthem"

well everyone has them

"Also the fact that Canada recently lost four of its fine military men during a "friendly fire" incident in Afghanistan."

A terrible tragedy and worse than being lost in combat.

"I'll never forget 1979 - the Iran Hostage Crisis, where many Americans were sheltered by the Canadian Embassy in Tehran, at great risk to the Canadians."

Sometimes we know who are real friends are.I also will not forget who was president.

Sounds like a reasonable plan to me. Just don't forget to round up and intern the 3 million Mexicans here illegally in some snowy Montana camps.

Of course, cooler heads will probably prevail, and we'll just sit back and wait another 10 or 20 years until the Mexican population doubles to 40 million or and our language, culture, heritage and borders are destroyed without firing a shot.
