The government will file three lawsuits against Florida counties alleging voting rights violations resulting from the bitterly disputed 2000 presidential election, a Justice Department official said Tuesday.
TWO OTHER LAWSUITS also will be filed, in Missouri and Tennessee, by the departments civil rights division, Assistant Attorney General Ralph Boyd told the Senate Judiciary Committee. The lawsuits will allege disparate treatment of minority voters, improper purging of voter rolls, motor voter registration violations and failure to provide access to disabled voters, Boyd said. Other charges, he said, include failing to allow voters with limited proficiency in English to have assistance at the polls and failing to provide bilingual assistance.

Well, true, but these people didn't and will never vote for Bush or probably any other Republican. They are whiners who are being marginalized because more independent voters are swinging to Bush, and to confidence in Republicans on the war on terror, taxes, the economy, defense spending, education, social security, and so forth.

News to me. What was it that bogus civil rights commission? They were even fighting with each other including backstabbing. I guess for job security purposes, they need to "make work" for themselves by keeping Algor's dream alive. It's about money - that's all.

If this law suit is anything like that dog and pony show the Civil Rights Committee held in Florida last year, it will be a joke and hurt the rats even more. If the entire country witnesses these fools who claimed discrimination of their ballots and that the police kept them from voting it will be a joke.
But it will open the door to the real ballot discrimination, and that is the Military ballots. This will backfire on the RATS just like everything else these desperate liberals have tried so far. It's amazing just how far these leftist will go when they see power leaving them.

This knocked me for a loop. We were so wronged during election 2000 and the press topped their bias last week while salivating over destroying President Bush, based on NO credible info, during wartime. We know how the press would handle this before an election. Jeb and Ms. Harris were accused and convicted, though innocent, while the mainstream press ignored all of the many, many dirty Dem. tricks. With this press, and our courts...I can't see a win in this...just more slander, repeated daily.
My letter's already gone out. The DOJ, we can be sure, has been the victim of a sustained campaign by the left of false accusations. Please take some time to send the DOJ info on the Dem. misbehavior during election 2000. We know that Mary Frances Berry did not include John Lott's report showing that black Republicans were the most "disenfranchised", so we can be sure she ignored most Republican complaints....and then, we complain so much less than those on the left.
Assist. Atty Gen. Ralph F. Boys. Jr's phone #-(202) 514-2151
E-mail the DOJ.

Is it a crime to vote while stupid?

You have to remember that all these counties that they plan to file suit against are democratic counties, the election committee's are all run by democrats, the ballots were designed by democrats, and the democrats did the re-count. So who will be shown to be corrupt?

What if the cases are selected so that the counties--execpt for West Palm Beach are found not guilty.
Any Democratic attacks will be doomed for 2002.

The media should be sued for calling the election and confusing voters. Also, the democrap party should be sued for trying to thwart the military from voting. This altogether sickening.

Don't forget that the Florida Constitution states that English is the offical language of Florida (24th Amendment).

I was thinking the same thing. How much do you want to bet that the suits are being brought against Democrat counties?

Boyd is a Bush appointee, so that can't be all bad. He said that they were going to follow it through no matter who's ox gets Gored. I wonder if there's a hidden message in there somewhere.

A few days after this (media) debacle, I remember seeing an interview with a black candidate in Florida, and his constituents had been threatened to not vote for him because he was running as a Republican. Is that going to be investigated? It's over. G. W. won. Let's not waste any more time and money on this stupidity. What about the west Florida people who didn't vote because the networks already said Gore had Florida? Gore didn't even carry his home state. Give it up.

"I mean, if this isn't Ashcroft's call, whose is it? Question the legitimacy of your own boss; real bright, John"It isn't John Ashcroft's call to make. It's the call of an "Independent" left wing hack by the name of Mary Frances Berry (Chairperson) a Clinton appointee.
Need I remind FReepers of Victoria Wilson who was appointed by Clinton in January 2000 to replace A. Leon Higginbotham Jr., who died before his term expired? When Wilson's term was up, President Bush attempted to fill the vacancy with Peter Kirsanow.
Berry fought. The administration won. Peter Kirsanow has now been sworn in as a member of the United States Civil Rights Commission....BUT YOU WOULD NEVER KNOW THAT BY THEIR WEBSITE, WHICH STILL HAS VICTORIS WILSON'S NAME WHERE KIRSANOW'S NAME SHOULD BE.
In addition, Berry's commission - she THINKS it belongs to her - dissed Governor Jeb Bush and SoS Katherine Harris over their insistance on following Florida election law.
THIS IS REVENGE, PURE SIMPLE, PETTY, SMALL MINDED REVENGE!!
I was right, it IS a left wing conspiracy to manufacture a new "scandal" in time for Congressional elections.

Is it mentioned what is expected to be accomplished?Money will be destroyed; time will be wasted.
To: RAT Patrol
Why is the government not suing the networks and the VNS for obstructing the election process by saying the polls were closed in Florida an hour before they were and otherwise calling and uncalling states before the results were in? I agree with you 1000%!!! You nailed it. If THAT can of worms were ever seriously opened... but the spineless repubs will never hve the cajones.

Ms. Berry can't force the Justice Department to do anything. She can only grandstand. It will be pretty hard for her to grandstand when a lawsuit has been filed by Bush's own people.
This is a chess move that most of you aren't seeing. All along people have been complaining that we aren't doing enough to prevent voter fraud. Note that they hope to reach an out-of-court settlement. What do you think that settlement would be?
I am always pleased by how smart and forward-thinking the Bush people are. Watch this case progress and you will gain confidence.

It's about the left wing losing power. The newest tool in the Bush Bashing for Bucks Brigade is Mary Francis Berry who, besides being a rabid left wing hack who never forgave GW, or Jeb or Katherine Harris for acting with integrity and upholding the law during the 2000 election.
The prez has whupped Berry's behind, BIG TIME, twice now, and she's as mad as only a thwarted left-wingnut can be!

I don't know what't going on, The Repub's can't be this stupid??
They must have something up their sleeve? To show the world that the DemRat losers are liars and cheats?
