U.S. to sue Florida over 2000 voting
MSNBC ^ | 5/21/02

Posted on 05/21/2002 2:52:19 PM PDT by Mean Spirited

The government will file three lawsuits against Florida counties alleging voting rights violations resulting from the bitterly disputed 2000 presidential election, a Justice Department official said Tuesday.

TWO OTHER LAWSUITS also will be filed, in Missouri and Tennessee, by the department’s civil rights division, Assistant Attorney General Ralph Boyd told the Senate Judiciary Committee. The lawsuits will allege disparate treatment of minority voters, improper purging of voter rolls, “motor voter” registration violations and failure to provide access to disabled voters, Boyd said. Other charges, he said, include failing to allow voters with limited proficiency in English to have assistance at the polls and failing to provide bilingual assistance.

I'm sure that the Bush Administration appreciates your sentiments.

Remind me again why it was so important that I voted for Bush? I remember something about cleaning up the Justice Department, but things are a little bit fuzzy now.

Why is the government not suing the networks and the VNS for obstructing the election process by saying the polls were closed in Florida an hour before they were and otherwise calling and uncalling states before the results were in?

This is not good news. The Dems will be able to revive their "stolen Florida" BS again.

This Commission going to file any complaints over the blatant democrat violations of campaigning in a church, using a church, campaigning INSIDE a precinct polling place, voter intimidation by street violence, vote fraud, illegal voters, illegal ballots, unregistered voters, and repeated voting by the same (democratic) people at different precincts?

Yeah, I wonder if this has anything to do with the findings of that "Civil Rights" Commission that was "commissioned" after the election?

Dunno. What is the deal with all of this. All it does is give fodder to the Dems who claimed the election was stolen.

I had long thought people being taking the test for US citizenship were required to be able to read or speak some English....

Applicants for naturalization must be able to read, write,
speak, and understand words in ordinary usage in the
English language. Applicants exempt from this
requirement are those who on the date of filing:

· have been residing in the United States subsequent
to a lawful admission for permanent residence for at
least 15 years and are over 55 years of age;

· have been residing in the United States subsequent
to a lawful admission for permanent residence for at
least 20 years and are over 50 years of age; or

· have a medically determinable physical or mental
impairment, where the impairment affects the
applicant’s ability to learn English.

....but, I how found people here in Chicago who can't speak or read a WORD of english. Go figure....grrrrrrrrr!

Is the suit in Missouri going against the precincts in St. Louis that stayed opened past the time they were suppose to close, in order to give slacker Gore voters more time to vote? And what about the reports of voter fraud in Oregon and Wisconsin, where university students sold their ballots to Democratic operatives?

I don't knwo, but it won't matter. Florida decided the Presidential race, and the Dems will get to harp on that the rest of the way. Kiss the Senate good-bye.

Yeah, I wonder if this has anything to do with the findings of that "Civil Rights" Commission that was "commissioned" after the election?

The demented ravings of that kangaroo commission has no force of law. All they can do is "independently" (snicker!) spout off their opinion.

My question is what the hell is Ashcroft smoking? He is basically legitimizing the horsesh*t about black voters being "disenfranchised" when not one voter could be found that would stand up and recount a story about how he/she was denied from voting.

I mean, if this isn't Ashcroft's call, whose is it? Question the legitimacy of your own boss; real bright, John. Why the hell the RATS were so worried about you is a freakin' mystery to me!

I hope you're right on this one.

But it will not stop the Dems from complaining and using this. Kiss re-gaining the Senate good-bye.
