I didn't say that Saint Michael isn't our splendor, fortress, and protector. I just said he isn't a member of the Church, because he has never been baptized.

The line in the litany says, "Splendor and Fortress of the church militant."

I don't think it necessarily implies that he is a member.

btw..Thanks for your service to our church, father. =)

I'm glad you can take a joke. Actually, I think Saint Michael IS a member of the Church. Since he isn't a human being, and is unaffected by the Sin of Adam, and has no body to pour water on, he can't be subject to the requirement of Baptism as a condition of membership in the Church.

Who was it?

Good question, thanks for pointing this out.

This was one of my greatest sins of detraction I ever committed, and I apologize to all of you for posting it. It was a grave error and sin on my part.

I am sorry.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Lots of the news items about the Church are false. Perhaps this shouldn't have been posted, but hindsight is 20/20, and if you hadn't someone would have.

I sure hope it is Egan, that's my diocese. I went to a mass at St. Pat's about two years ago, and Egan had just gotten in there. He gave this fatuous homily and then started in on needing men for the priesthood. This six foot four, rakishly dressed, Italian young man, about twenty four, was at the front of the church, not too far from me, and he was beaming dewey eyed at Egan who stopped and talked to this fellow who claimed a desire for the priesthood. They lapsed into Italian and openly flirted and fluttered in front of the whole congregation! I was so struck by that. My parish priest, a very effete fellow, but one I am pretty confident is celibate, really seemed to dislike Egan. He closed a lot of schools which served the poorer parts of our county, and that really pissed my priest off. My priest really loved O'Connor, but makes no secret of disliking Egan. And, the sex ed Catechism Curriculuum being forced on us here was implemented in the late eighties under, guess who, yes Egan He was in charge of Archdiocesan Education at the time. V's wife.

You know, this is what makes stuff so difficult for the pewsitters. Some stuff priests and bishops do is very orthodox and some stuff is very unCatholic. Egan is a good example of this. So was my own Cardinal Law.

I think one of the best pieces of advice I ever got as a mother was "just be consistant" -- real basic, wish the bishops followed that advice.

Egan's refusal to meet with, to say Mass for, or to have any of his auxiliaries say Mass for, the Lay Review Board when they visited New York speaks volumes to me.

I think Egan's got lots of dirt in his history, and he knows Frank Keating and Co. mean business. But, neither he nor any of these ecclesiastics are going to be able to hide forever.

Laymen, aroused, forced Law out of office, and, given the motivation, can do the same in other dioceses. They're trying to do it in Dallas by embarrassing the bishop in the press.
