It is with great pleasure that I announce to my Freeper Friends that I won the primary election last week in West Virginia. So, in WV it is the Right Jay against the Left Jay. Any Freepers looking for a good place to spend their summer vacation and help us defeat Jay Rockefeller, come on out.
I'll be in DC the next couple of days trying to raise a little money. If you know of a conservative PAC that might want to help, please let me know at jaywolfe@iolinc.net. You can check out my new web site at www.jaywolfe.net.
Best wishes, Jay Wolfe
Seriously, best of luck to you against Rockefeller.
Be sure to blast the Dems for their hypocrisy. They're always screaming that Republicans are "the party of the rich", when in fact THEIR best-known leaders are all limousine liberals out-of-touch with the values of middle-class America. It is amazing that West Virginia, one the poorest states in the union, is represented by Rockefeller, the richest man in the Seante! Maybe Rockefeller doesn't need a tax cut, but it sure helped ME! If he's so concerned about the plight of working Americans, maybe he should give up some of HIS money instead of demanding they give more the government!
West Virginia is a fine state with a beautiful rocky mountain capitol (I visited it two years ago), it's shameful that so many West Virginians have been duped into thinking Rockefeller and Byrd represent their interests. You've got to pry those yellow-dog Democrats out of the plantation.
You're be facing a tough, uphill battle, so best of luck to you. I think you can do it. We have our own "uphill" battle here with Jim DurKin trying to unseat cocky liberal Dick Durbin. Dick actually got LESS votes in the Dem primary than Carol Moseley-Braun got in '98, so I think an upset is possible here too.
Keeping my fingers crossed, the November headlines could read "Jay beats Jay" and "Durkin beats Durbin". ;-)
It must be hard being a Republican in West Virginia.
West Virginia seems so strange to me. On Social Issues like Gun Control, Homosexuality and Abortion West Virginians are some of the most conservative people in the country. Yet the vote democrat like it was a religious requirement.
My advice is to push the Gun/Abortion Issue.
The Gun issue alone is the ONLY reason Al Gore isn't in the White House today.
When was the last time a Republican Presidential Candidate won West Virginia? 1984 when Reagan took every state except MN. The last time before that was 1972 when Nixon Took every state except MA.
Simply put, West Virginia was one of the most reliably democrat states in the country, the Gun Issue Alone, (with a bit of the abortion/environmentalist/homosexual agenda thrown in.) Is why WV went to Bush.
If you could make this a campaign issue, you could expose to the people of WV how far left Rockefeller is.
If you could put Ads on TV (I don't know how much money you have.) pushing the Gun Issue. It will help a lot.
I often wondered if a candidate put ads on TV showing the results of abortions (a la Silent Scream) how many people would take notice. You know the big media doesn't want those pictures seen.
Anyway Good Luck.
You have a big mountain to climb. I hope you can do it.
I know you've probably already seen this, but I will post this link regarding your opponent being soundly "FReeped" this past weekend, for the benefit of all reading this thread.
Thus I urge you, as the new GOP Senate candidate for WV, to indeed line up your volunteers, as many of them as you can find, to get out there on Election Day and keep an eye on things. They must indeed be able to call into the State Board of Elections and the local authorities to report electioneering and/or vote fraud.
As a pollwatcher holding credentials from the successful Fitzgerald for Senate campaign in 1998, I personally got electioneering by Democrat operatives successfully shut down at 3 precincts in the northern suburbs of Chicago (and inside Cook County to boot!). It can and MUST be done!
