Following Free Republic's successful & fun first postal match (How about a Freeper Postal Match?) for pistols, I'm sponsoring a rifle match. A "postal match" is conducted by mail, hence the name "postal" and should not be confused with a contest that involves shooting up your co-workers in a rage.
Shooters in different parts of the country compete against each other in a contest of marksmanship. Shooters are mailed numbered targets which they shoot. The targets are returned via the mail (hence "postal") and scored. Obviously, the honor system comes into play here.
The rules (up to this point) for this match are as follows:
1> A rimfire and a centerfire rifle are required. You will need 30 rounds for each weapon.
2> Iron sights only. No scopes, red-dots, lasers, etc.
3> Diatance is 100 yards.
4> Ten shots each position; standing, sitting, and prone for each type of rifle.
5> Ten minutes for ten shots, each position.
6> The following are not allowed:
...a> match rifles
...b> match ammo
...b> use of spotting scopes between shots
...c> compitition type "cuffed" slings
...d> shooting jackest
You can see the result of the First Freeper Postal Match here: First Freeper Postal Match Results!
There are 6 targets total, all type SR-21, that you will receive in the mail. We have 8 confirmed for this match so far, and need 7 more to fill it out, 15 total. To date I have snail mail addresses for:
Shooter 2.5
NY.SS-Bar9
ctdonath2
umgud
KG9 Kid
chookter
M1911
CapandBall
Freep mail me with a mailing address if you are interested. We had some problems using regular mail in the last match, so I'll probley use priority mail. First come first serve.
That lying bastard!LOL
I just lost my innocence at age 34. My dad can't be trusted.
That lying bastard!LOL
He might've been thinking of the Berdan-primed brass, which is usually discarded like rimfire cases. If you're referring to a .303, it is most assuredly a centerfire.
To repeat: This match is full up!

This is a few more than I had planned, but thats OK. To those who didnt get to me in time, sorry - we'll do it again I'm sure.
I'll need to run to my gun shop and get a few more targets, and I can't do that till friday. Barring unforseen calamities, the targets will be in the mail friday afternoon, so you should see them sometime next week.
If anyone is having 2nd thoughts or realizes now they don't have access to a 100 yard range or the required two firearms, let me know. I expect to give everybody appx. 1 month to shoot and get their targets back to me.
Good luck shooters, I'm looking forward to this. I got my clock cleaned in the pistol shoot so I'm looking for an oppotunity to redeem myself. ;^)
I did fairly well in the pistol match and expect to be humbled in the rifle match.
Final count 22 persons in this match.
Not by me...any bragging I could do would be based on glass or match sights, and match ammo...the rules of this match leave me with A1 sights on an SP1 and the stock Ruu..Ruu..Ruger blade sight on a 10/22...
It will be humbling at the least...but I wouldn't miss it...
glasseye - give me a zip code
Tailback - give me a name to address your targets to.
ricer1 - confirm you understand you will need two (2) rifles.
Some interesting stats, participants by state:

This looks like a very good cross-section of Freepers!
Probably wanna give us several weeks. I'm not one of those lucky Freepers who lives on a farm and has a range in my backyard. ;-]
If they are in Albuquerque, maybe we could get together and keep each other "honest". I am a member of the Zia Rifle & Pistol Club, and would have no problem taking a guest, even if that other person is not a member.
As far as not using match ammo, I will be using surplus M2 ball (LC69) in the Garand, and the $8.65 for 455 rounds Federal stuff from Walmart in my 10/22.
CapandBall - thanks for putting this together and I appreciate the invite. I'm wise enough to stick with a keyboard...
See #66. Happy shooting Kid!
Cap, I am beginning to think that the winner of the rimfire & iron sights 100 yards category could be someone using a 16-gauge shotgun with #6 buckshot and an extremely choked barrel. :D
By the way, I'll be shooting the exact same ammo as you.
M1911 is my VA neighbor, and he has the the 100+ yard range we will be shooting at. I only have about 60 yards clear, further than that and I have to shoot into or out of the woods.
I'll be sending the targets tomorrow. As folks receive them, please ping me and the list. Once everybody has received them, I'll pick a date about 1 month in advance that they are to be returned by.
I will include instructions, to ensure everybody is clear on the rules. In the meantime, post any other questions or concerns here and we can discuss them. I'm relying on shooter 2.5 to help me with questions, as he helped me come up with the rules for this match.
