Remember Jim Jeffords? He is the Senator from Vermont whose departure from the Republican party transferred control of the Senate to Tom Daschle and the Democrats. He claims to be an independent, yet today he was in Houston, Texas at a $5000.00 a plate fundraiser for Ron Kirk, Democrat candidate for U.S. Senator from Texas.
Why would an independent attend a Democrat fundraiser two thousand miles from home? Because Jim Jeffords is A LIBERAL DEMOCRAT. Members of the H.A.T. FR Chapter and two other groups made sure that he received a "Conservative Texas Welcome".
Approximately twenty members of the H.A.T. FR Chapter, The Young Republicans, and The Hispanic Republicans gathered at the fundraiser location.
Signs focused on the following themes. This is a partial list.
$5000.00 for a fundraiser while at the same time trying to ban soft money?
The Jeffords switch and its undermining of the Bush Presidency.
Jeffords - Liberal democrat in independent's clothing.
Most of the fundraiser attendees are trial lawyers.
News personnel from AP, Houston Chronicle, Austin American-Statesman, a small paper from Galveston and local television stations (channels 11/13/26) took footage of the Freep. AntiVenom, Dix, and PetroniDE gave statements, as did several members of the other groups represented. AntiVenom passed Freeper business cards to representatives of the other groups.
Funniest moment was when a couple of children came by selling lemonade (capitalism at its grass roots). We tried to instruct to sell the lemonade at $5000.00 a cup, but they wouldn't do it.
The Jeffords defection has not been forgotten. He knows he is a liberal democrat, and now he knows that we know. If anyone from Vermont sees this thread, we have a message for you. THROW THIS PHONY OUT AT YOUR NEXT OPPORTUNITY.
Pictures available soon.
Channel 26 and Channel 39 had coverage of the Freep on their 9:00 news. That is a good sign.
Good work!
DAMN you'd think an Independent...would support his OWN...not a demoncrat...at 5000.00 a plate dinner...
Jeffords visit irks GOP Independent backs Democrat Kirk at fund-raiser

A Sunday visit to Houston by U.S. Sen. James Jeffords, whose exit from the Republican Party gave Democrats control of the Senate, sparked protest from local conservatives who labeled him a traitor and a coward.
That Jeffords, an independent from Vermont, would attend a fund-raiser for Ron Kirk reflects poorly on the Democratic senatorial nominee, who has pledged to support President Bush, the Republicans say.
"Kirk is associating himself with someone who entirely lacks morals," said John Wilson, who joined a dozen protesters outside the Tanglewood home where the $5,000-a-plate fund-raiser was held.
"Jeffords stabbed the president in the back. If you call yourself a Republican, it doesn't change. You don't change what you believe in."
Before the fund-raiser, Jeffords said he changed parties because Bush was not committed to funding education.
"That's where I had the biggest difference with him," Jeffords said.
When he changed his affiliation to an independent last year, Jeffords ignited a political firestorm and caused both Republicans and Democrats to refocus their efforts on the 2002 congressional elections.
Eloquent SOB, ain't I?
Thanks to the The Young Republicans, and The Hispanic Republicans for initiating this and contacting us. I hope this cooperation is a trend for the future.
