FRN Los Angeles Chapter - After Action Report
FreeRepublic Los Angeles ^ | 05/19/2002 | DoughtyOne

Posted on 05/19/2002 4:06:54 PM PDT by DoughtyOne

The Los Angeles Chapter of the FreeRepublic Network met yesterday afternoon at Marie Calender's in Glendale, California.  Eighteen fellow Freepers came together, some for the first time. Others of us had met at the rallies in support of Governor Bush in Novermber and December of 2000 or at other events over the last couple of years.

Eighteen of us were able to attend.  We greeted each other, talked about our common interests, ate lunch and addressed chapter business.  I gave an overview of the history of our chapter, and moved the discussion toward talk of the FreeRepublic Network, it's plans for chapter support and regional and national events. There are a number of activities that will take place over the next three to eight months. I am eagerly awaiting the public announcements of these plans. Freepers have a lot to look foward to.  Then we discussed some of the goals and activities we wanted our chapter to participate in for the remainder of this year.

Among the items we discussed was the VetsCor Honor Our Veterans Day which is targeted for Memorial Day, May the 27th. It was agreed that we would take part in these activities. We are cooordinating those efforts in preparation for Memorial Day.

We also discussed the state elections for this fall, and agreed unanimously that Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Bill Simon would receive our full support. Various people expressed an interest in contacting and helping the Simon campaing.  It was mentioned that we may be able to produce a rally in support of him once or twice before November. Other candidates were mentioned and we'll be doing our best to make sure these candidates are supported by our chapter and or others.

In attendence were Moonmad27, Norton, WayneShrug, Sabertooth, OneDoug, WindCliff, Absalom, IrishGirl, tGS (I appologize, I wouldn't make out the last word), PC (one of our FR Lurkers), Avoiding Sulla, ChristynSoldier, Amom, TonyInHawaii and DoughtyOne. PatriciaRuth and husband were able to join us briefly. They live in the Central Valley of California, now were able to drop by just long enough to say high and drop off some DUMP DAVIS bumper stickers. Some of our members were out of town or had scheduling conflicts.  We missed them.

It was decided that our chapter would meet again on Saturday, July 13, 2002. We hope to see more of our Southland Freepers at that event.

As always it was nice to get together with other people who share the FreeRepublic experience, and wish to see this nation return to some of it's former ideals. So long for now.

Amom said to tell you "Hi!" OBM Brother. She seemed impressed by our history. (Though I didn't mention those parts of us still out there.)

It was a very nice time, with good food at Marie Calender's. We met in their warm Library Room, and it was very cordial.

Thanks again, DoughtyOne, for putting it together. I wish I might've reminded the group that FR yet provides even us with a means and method of fighting the War our nation and civilization is now deeply in, with its true weapon, our minds, and how our words express them.

Everything Good. Best to you All!

That was a great afternoon! It was wonderful to meet fellow Freepers, and it's very motivating to see how involved some of the folks already are. Looking forward to the next gathering. If anyone reading this thread is in the general southern California area and missed Saturday's meeting, be sure to put July 13 on your calendar and join us then. Thanks, Doughtyone!

Next time.

If more people show up, we'll need a bigger venue.

PS: I was the fat guy in the tweed jacket.

You were at the table with Amom, right? I didn't think you're fat. It was really nice meeting you, and everyone.

Yes, I'm afraid it's true, I am indeed fat. I'm OK with it. :)

Sounds like you had a great time!

Sorry we couldn't make it (had previously committed to a couple of Brantuk for Assembly campaign events), but we'll do our best to be at the next one!

Keep up the good work!
