I took the subway to Brooklyn last weekend, and as the train crossed the Manhattan Bridge I happened to look back. Yep, the towers are still gone.

I won't do that again, I just can't stand it.

This guy has to look at the hole in the skyline every day.

Thanks for posting this. As I viewed the pictures, it took me further and further back to that horrible and tragic day...and the lump in my throat got bigger and my eyes started stinging.

Thanks for posting this. It has a great meaning for me as I am, most probably, a neighbor of Mark Smith's, living in Brooklyn Heights.

Last week there was a documentary on HBO entitled "Telling Nicholas," about a 7 year old boy whose mother worked in the World Trade Center and his family's coming to terms with her death and telling him. I was surprised there was no thread about this on FR (I checked a few times), but also understand that because I live so near the WTC and work a few blocks from the site I was probably more interested in this than others on FR.

I discussed this documentary with a co-worker and was reminded of how I felt "doomed" and like a "sitting duck" when the Mayor first allowed us back to work (Sept. 17). I said that I didn't feel anything other than overwhelming pessimism until the President spoke on September 20th and the co-worker agreed. The interesting part of this is she is a Dem. and Gore voter who now appreciates how lucky we are with President Bush.

This past week has made me re-live much of the horror -- and I am also reminded of President Bush's inaugural speech. When the Dems. attacked him, and the press became as acusatory as if the President flew the planes into the World Trade Center himself, I became pessimistic. And then the tide turned. And the American people spoke. And the Dems. look like idiots. And I remembered the Inaugural speech about "angels directing the whirlwind."
