A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 5/15 and 5/16/02

This is a special double-edition daily dose due to FR being down yesterday...
President Bush and his administration were in the defensive today as Democrats and the media swarmed around revelations that the President was given a general warning about possible hijackings before September 11th. It was revealed later in the day that the very same Democrats leading the negative charge, Tom Daschle and Dick Gephardt, also knew of the briefings yet failed to let the media know. By the end of the day, it was the Republicans in Congress leading the charge and taking the Democrats to task for their usual games of partisan slander.
This afternoon, in a move to give the public more knowledge on the exact nature of the briefings, National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice confronted the media with detailed national security intelligence in the months leading up to September 11th. It was made clear that the intelligence briefings given to the President were not specific or detailed enough to prevent the suicide bomber attacks.
In much lighter news, the President began the day at the First Annual National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast. Later he presented the Congressional Gold Medal to President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Nancy.

rintense, thank you. Today's disgusting media feeding frenzy has made me sick! They're like vultures, sharks circling what they think is a wounded prey! Mr. Inspectorette and I asked for an extra, special blessing for our President this evening so that he can ward off the scurrilous attacks. We need to pray ever harder and fight back - these venomous attacks will never end, because the people perpetrating them are evil.

These pictures are damn-near breathaking in their poignancy. She looks great considering what she's been through. Bush looks as if he loves her like his own mother. Very special and touching photos.

I have a strong feeling that today's liberal feeding frenzy will backfire on them, and they will feel it in November.

Nice to see Nancy again:-)I've always liked her, no matter what the naysayers said, and she deserves our fondest wishes.
The other matter will go away in a few days once Tommy finds something else to accuse Bush of doing, like making DC so humid in July ;-)lol

I'm sure you're right. I'm sure they would dislike the separation under ideal conditions, let alone this contrived Dem plot to not only weaken him politically but to besmirch his integrity.

Nancy reagan still looks quite charming for being in her 80s.
She sure does! I was thinking while watching the medal ceremony today, of what she must be going through every day, watching her husband deteriorate. She has been a faithful and loyal wife. She could have easily placed him in some sort of home when he got really bad. But she has chosen the tough route. I admire her for that.

No doubt. I call on every freeper to do whatever they can, whatever is within their power, to help gain back control of the Senate. This country will never become what it can be with the Democrats pulling the strings.

Someone said on another thread that maybe the Repubs were the ones who leaked the information about 9/11. I said that if they did, it was a smart move. That way the Dems can't leak it a couple of days before the election the way they did with Dubya's DWI when he was very young. Dubya must know that they were nosing around for ANYTHING they can get to discredit him, so perhaps he beat them at their own game AGAIN.
rintense, these pictures are BEAUTIFUL. I love the one where Dubya's forehead is touching (or almost touching) Nancy's. And what a BIG job you have tonight making up for two days. Thank you.

I noticed that too, he is so tender with her. Bless her, she's really had a hard go of it these last years. I'm so glad our president has a big heart and has treated Nancy as she was so used to being treated. It's obvious that he loves her and respects her. The kind of devotion she has shown her husband is so rare, so precious, so dedicated and loyal. You just can't say enough good things about this woman.
And I forgot these pics from today!
