SILVER SPRING, Md. (May 16, 2002 7:57 p.m. EDT) - A 64-year-old priest who resigned from his parish in Connecticut amid allegations of sexual misconduct apparently killed himself Thursday at a Catholic psychiatric hospital, church officials said. The Diocese of Bridgeport, Conn., identified the priest as the Rev. Alfred J. Bietighofer, who was stripped last month of his priestly powers and ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation.

Two men told diocesan officials Bietighofer abused them when they were boys in the late 1970s and early 1980s, church officials said.

Bietighofer was found hanged in his room Thursday at St. Luke Institute, according to Prince George's County police and hospital officials.

"I am profoundly saddened by the tragic death of Father Alfred Bietighofer," Bridgeport Bishop William Lori said in a statement. "To parishioners and to all those whom Father Bietighofer assisted during the course of his priestly ministry, I extend my sincere sympathy and prayers."

I don't know what to make of this other than that they are very fascinating and possibly prognostic insights on what may be happening now

If I were the devil and I wanted to destroy the priesthood I don't think I could think of a better way to injure it tremendously than to infect the Church with men who are abhored even by the worst criminals in the toughest prison.

Why don't you explain to the Freepers why you Zonpower Neo-Tech lunatics were banned from humanities.philosophy.objectivism?

There is an explanation on the Neo-Tech/Zonpower Web site. Basically it amounts to ersatz objectivist leaders choosing to barricade themselves by creating alt.humanities.philosophy.objectivism while clutching their dogma and banning Neo-Tech. Why? because it was exposing the dogmatists and they couldn't stand for that.

Must you proceed to find new forumns to spam with your insane garbage?

Spam!? You posted more Neo-Tech/Zonpower literature on this thread than I did. The amount that I did post on this thread is more than I have posted in months. ...In total, it represents about 5% of NT/ZP literature that I have posted on this forum over the past four years.

Neo-Tech/Zonpower scares the be-jeepers out of some people I guess. They often respond similar to you.

Like I asked in the post you responded to: Whose rights do you want to violate by initiating force against them?... Or are you so cowardly that you would petition government agents to initiate force on your behalf. More importantly what person, group or government do you want to violate your individual-property rights?

There are people claiming, you know, that in some sense this is all part of some elaborate and deliberate plot.

In fact, it's a joke in a 1975 satirical novel (The Illuminatus Triology by Robert Anton Wilson, I think) that Satanists deliberately infiltrate the Church and do nasty things so it will be blamed on Catholics. I thought that sounded ridiculously odd and outlandish when this line was pointed out to me years ago by a SciFi fanatic, but now...I'm not so sure...

I don't understand the difficulty in the Scripture. It seems to speak clearly for itself. It speaks of "vain babblings" and "false science (or false knowledge)". I contend that what you have written amounts to such. This is not an attack either, simply a "pointed" observation...

Vain babblings like praying to imagined Gods. Erroneous knowledge like acting on nothing as if it was something or the self-delusion that non-reality is real. Now I understand the point. Thanks.

Good reason for it too. It can't have any effect other to get you laughed off of the thread.

I sort of meant in the context of secular universities' studies of psychological methods and techniques. That would include debunking or refuting spurious and pseudo-scientific travesties, as you suggest. My argument is with gullible Catholics buying into silliness. The basic Intro. to Psych course would have to spend a good deal of time explaining the scientific flaws of, say, Freudian psychoanalysis. I have no problem with a prof. mentioning techniques and fads of the 1970s in that sense.

Since Zonpower/Neo-Tech is irrational insanity, it must therefore seek to cure itself of itself.

Do you have a problem with any one of the three articles of the Neo-Tech Constitution 159? If so, whose rights do you want to violate by initiating force against them?... Or are you so cowardly that you would petition government agents to initiate force on your behalf. More importantly what person, group or government do you want to violate your individual-property rights?

Don't peruse the Neo-Tech.com Web site too far or you may come to learn nature's quintessential secret.

Thanks for advertising the Neo-Tech/Zonpower Web site. It's not mine but I'm certain the owners appreciate your help. BTW, they welcome all comments -- positive as well as negative. They are equally appreciative of negative comments and let that be known by posting a link to negative comments where it can't be missed on their homepage. If you haven't already posted a comment you really should.

Make no mistake - I am definitely no defender of psychobabble. Just check out Out of Its Mind: Psychiatry in Crisis by Harvard's J. Allan Hobson & Jonathan A. Leonard. Even the post-docs have difficulty sorting out the mazes.

What is the "quintessence" in the Pythagorean arcane sense? Anyone here studied alchemy?

Zon, I wish you well. I know a little too much about the history of fallacies and the inherent contradiction of presenting metaphysical assertions about the ultimate nature of reality via some type of empirical science to assist in these digressions. This thread is about the Catholic crisis here in America anno Domini 2002, the 16th of May. There are plenty of sites, bulletin boards, and chat rooms which debate theism, Christianity, or Deism vs. a variety of neurotically oppositional-defiant atheist ideologies. I'm a Catholic who has had spiritual experiences which are valid for me. You are free to dislike that. And I wish you well in your philosophical quest. All of the forms of scientism, positivism, and materialism (which make claims about the ultimate nature, limits, and boundaries of reality)are based on ontological categories and presuppositions which cannot be demonstrated empirically. That's a well-known fact which professors of philosophy joked about in the 1930s. Check out Von Hayek's critical analysis of scientism. He's not a Catholic and he finds it GOOFY.

At some point in the next seven years your bubble is going to burst. And you're going to be incredibly happy for that .I have no need to convince you of that. I just know it is going to happen. Well, not for certain but I'm 99.9% sure. Have a nice day. :)

I'm betting on the burst bubble being yours, bub. You were doing such an excellent job on the 2nd amendment threads. Then you did the philosophical equivalent of bending over and passing gas.
