(New York-WABC, May 16, 2002) Eyewitness News has just learned that there has been a partial collapse of a building under construction at 29 East 61st at Madison Avenue.
It is a four-story building and officials say six people are injured. The extent of the injuries is not known. The 3rd floor collapsed when the floor was undergoing construction. The ground floor of the building contained a restaurant.
We will have more information as it becomes available.

This is, unforunatly, common on construction projects. All you need is one errant carpenter for the thing to fall apart.
I've always been more worried about the bridges and highway infrastructure collapsing in NYC more than anything else. Most of those, of course, date from the Robert Moses era and it shows.
I get scared shi-tless everytime I cross the Willis Avenue Bridge.

I worked at Madison & 62 for ten years, and I'm wondering which of those lovely buildings it was.
Likely it's 61st between Madison and Park, not Madison and Fifth, which is pretty much taken up by the Pierre, the Carlton House, and 800 Fifth. Not many smaller buildings on that block.
