What if Bush and Sharon planned this. What if Bush knows the Saudis are wishy washy, and he doesn't trust Qatar enough to base our stratcom for a war against Iraq out of there? What if they gave Arafat all the rope he needed to hang himself, and when Israel attacks, he'll say,"Well, we said we won't let Israel be destroyed." Then we base a lot of our military in Israel, which prevents our wishy washy allies from getting any ideas of attacking Israel, gives us a secure location to base our stratcom from, and gives us a way to attack Iraq from Israel, Turkey & the former Soviet Republics. Just a thought.

No, Arafat is merely the "President" (and I use that term loosely) of the largest Palestinian faction, the PLO. Palestinians are devided into three large factions: The PLO, Hamas, and a moderate percentage who only join local gangs for protection.

Members of the three groups have clashed before, and if the Israelis weren't there to shoot the PLO and Hamas would be fighting each other for control of Palestine.

We were asked to try and facilitate a cease-fire and possibly a peace plan, If Arafat was killed by the Israeli's in his compound it would of been a media circus calling for Israel to be charged with war crimes. Bush and Sharon understood this. Once they cornered Arafat the only way to handle the situation was to release him. Exiling him or killing him would of made us and Israel look bad. Now Israel can release the dogs of war on them and no one can say Israel and the U.S. didn't make a concerted effort towards a peaceful end to the problems over there.

There is a great deal of work to be done, lest we begin seeing assasinations/homicide bombings start here.

So far, this kind of mischief appears to be headed up by groups based outside of our country, who still appear to fear us. But Satan's hardening of the enemy continues, and sooner or later I think we will get a horrifying Muslim extremist suicide attack planned and executed right in our midst. And when it is, it won't just be a lone bomber in a marketplace.

They had better strike while the iron is hot. The "intolerance" of Arafat has a limited shelf life. I'd say 24 hours maximum.
