Pim Fortuyn, Dutch right-wing politician, has been shot by an unknown gunman. Between three and 6 six were fired. Gunman still at large. Fortuyn was shot when leaving the Radia 3 studio.

He was heavily wounded and was transported to hospital.

Fortuyn : gay, anti-Islamist, Libertarian. No objection to Muslims, but objected to unwillingness to assimilate while milking welfare system. Homosexuality made for an interesting political hook, since his objection to Muslim clerics had a personal basis, and his appeal was therefore broader. This is heartbreaking news. I hope the left-wing extremist who committed this dasterdly assassination of the leading nationalist conservative for Dutch PM gets the maximum sentence which unfortunately, thanks to Dutch EU membership cannot include death. It seems that the EuroCommunist campaign against laudable nationalist conservatives in the Netherlands, Austria, France, the UK and elsewhere is assuming more desperate measures including assasination where necessary to prevent anti-EU politicians from taking power in EU member countries.

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch anti-immigrant politician Pim Fortuyn appeared to have died after being shot Monday on leaving a radio interview, Dutch television reported.

Fortuyn was shot six times and suffered multiple wounds in the chest and neck, the television said.

Neither Dutch police nor Fortuyn's party were able to confirm the incident.

I am speaking of the use of assassination -- voting by rifle. This is something the left seems to use a lot more.

1776 was a popular revolt of a colony being kept under ruthless control by a mother country, and modern-day 'left' and 'right' were much less meaningful.

Dutch far-right leader shot

The Dutch right-wing politician Pim Fortuyn has been shot, say unconfirmed Dutch reports.

Police say he has been gravely wounded; his spokesman said he was not likely to survive.

Mr Fortuyn is said to have been shot six times and to have suffered multlple wounds in the chest and neck.

He was attacked as he left a radio studio in the central Dutch city of Hilversum after giving an interview.

Mr Fortuyn leads the anti-immigration Lijst Fortuyn party, which made surprising gains in recent elections.

The party has been predicted to do well in the forthcoming general elections in nine days time, with polls giving him 15% of the vote.

Mr Fortuyn provoked public indignation by calling for the Netherlands' borders to be closed to foreigners and by describing Islam as a 'backward' religion.
