Modesto FReepers reunited this evening for a dinner followed by attendance at a candlelight vigil held in honor of missing Modesto resident Chandra Levy. The vigil was held to mark the one year anniversary of Ms. Levy's mysterious disappearance. The candlelight vigil, organized by the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation and Stanislaus County Sheriff's Dept., was held at the Garden of Healing for Victims of Crime located on the grounds of the Stanislaus County Courthouse.
Our evening started with dinner at a downtown restaurant. FReepers in attendance: ontherightside, Commander8, SiFiPattie, Saundra Duffy, Lagar, and Diver Dave. Also joining with us were Erica, Gordon, Chris and Mrs. Diver Dave.
Saundra Duffy, as Leader of the Central Valley Chapter of FReeRepublic.com, conducted a short business meeting of the Chapter. We opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. It was decided that a new chapter would be formed covering the northern areas of the Central Valley.
Saundra also present awards to individuals for their service to the FR Chapter during the past year - specifically our Modesto Condit FReeps. Also discussed this evening was the FRN/VetsCoR "America Remembers" project. Lagar presented some information regarding a proposed Vietnam Memorial for Juan Ramon Trevino, the sole casualty from a small impoverished area of Fresno. Hopefully, he will provide more details on this thread.
John Robinson was also recognized for his major contributions to FreeRepublic.com.
We were all asked to offer a most memorable event that took place during our 8 month long weekly FReep of the worlds most famous (and soon to be ex) congressman. No tears were shed, but the reflections produced lots of laughter. We departed the restaurant shortly after 8 pm and walked the 3 blocks to the candlelight vigil. I missed the program portions of the vigil, but joined the other FReepers already standing in a circle near the corner. I spotted atbay as he was walking by so he joined our circle of friends as we lit our candles, said a prayer for Chandra and the Levy family.
Continue to pray for the Levy family, and for results in this ongoing mystery.
I enjoyed your post about the candlelight vigil, Dave. Sounds like you had a nice evening, along with showing your support for the Levy family. It's always nice to hear about what my brothers and sisters to the north are doing.
Saundra and Scott, it has been too long since the last time you came to one of our FResno rallies. Hope to see you, Dave, Pattie, atbay and all of the other Modesto FReepers down our way soon. :-)
We are counting on it. :-)
Dave I love to read your reports so much. Thank you for being a FReeper and a friend.
Tonkin, I agree with you. Let's all make FallGuy the driver and head out to FReep them then sometime. We would love that.
Bump.
