Agreed. It is one thing to have compassion for sinners and provide support for their families, but to imply that there should be PRIDE in their behavior is reprehensible (aside from the fact that PRIDE itself is a sin.)
Imagine if there was an adulterers' PRIDE group in the Catholic church? Or a coveters' PRIDE group. You can see how silly the concept becomes. Their behavior is a sin, and we are happy to help them get over it, but lets show a little shame and perhaps a bit of penitence here as we go along, fellas.
It would be cool if instead of a tithe, a copy of the check to the charity was enclosed. Don't know a charity?... consider your local Boy Scouts!
Go for it! I'm signing off for a while. God Bless! Pray & Fast!!!
Thank you for your thoughtful answer. I was going to write back to you and ask why they (some Bishops and Cardinals) have not been obedient to Christ, etc., etc., but then I thought the better of it. I do believe that the gates of hell will not prevail against the Church, and I just have to have more faith in Him and His word. Thy will be done. As you know, it is pretty tough right now, not the Faith that we are so blessed to have, but the faith in men who are supposed to rescue souls for God - I never saw this coming in such an evil way. I did see the watering down of the catachism and the irrelevance of the Church that watering down has produced, but evil of this magnitude has just floored me.
Good, logical thinking. You know, if this whole evil with the homosexual priests did not come to public light, we might have seen something like you describe in 20 years. I don't think most of the laity is going to stand for any of this "feel good" garbage anymore. We've had it!
Wishful thinking...
Catholics draw new converts
By PATTI BROWN Register Correspondent 03/31/2002
More than 187,000 adult Americans became Catholics Saturday evening - including 1,400 Iowans - as the church continued to grow despite a sex scandal and dwindling numbers of priests and nuns.
The Roman Catholic Church, whose members make up nearly 25 percent of the U.S. population, is growing faster than any other major Christian denomination. The number of converts to Catholicism has risen each year since the mid-1990s.
What do you think is the major influence here?
Most folks don't know it, but there is a tremendous flowering of good old fashioned orthodox Catholicism, with hundreds of protestant ministera converting and many tens of thousands of laypeople, over the last ten years.
I think the cohesive teachings of Catholicism on Culture of Life issues is one reason, but also liberalism is a dying movement that does not reproduce, and is wholly sterile, and there are a tremendous number of reverts right now accompanied by a tremendous number of converts. There are many other reasons...
