Tiger Woods is a class act regardless of his politics.

So why do athletes tend to lean right? My guess is because in sports, merit reigns supreme. There are no quotas or affirmative action policies to ensure that the NBA, the NFL or Major League Baseball "look like America."

Sport is uncompromisingly results-oriented. Outcomes are based on performance and efficacy is measured in cold, cold statistics. There are no championship rings for "most diverse offensive line" or "most multicultural starting rotation." Field an inferior team and you’ll lose. It’s that simple. It doesn’t matter what feel-good politics caused you to put your particular lineup on the field.

Great article. I enjoyed it immensely.

"Progressive" of course means liberal.

NOT true! In the early 1900's communism was having a hard time getting a foothold in the USA. Progressive was substituted for the word communism to make it more palatable for the sheep.

Progressive means Communist. Communists invented the word as used in the political sense.

This is kind of humorous considering Tiger doesn't really consider himself to be "black".

Nothing makes a Republican out of you faster than seeing the tax bite on your income. These athletes make good money, and they want to keep it just as much as the rest of us do.

The irony is I bet Tiger Woods spends very little time thinking about race, unlike the "progressives".

Who's the racist then?

Good Read. I don't know Tiger's politics. That's fine by me.

When the NAACP pressured him to boycott a South Carolina tour event because the state still flies the Confederate flag, Tiger again ducked controversy. He didn’t play the event, but he refused to be a ruse. He insisted he declined because the Hilton Head event didn’t fit into his schedule, not because he was making a statement.

Too bad he "ducked" in this instance with a dubious excuse, instead of telling the NAACP to take a flying leap.

Also, Tiger's father was career US military..AF I think?..and the values of the career military tend favor the GOP.....and you'd think a little bit would have rubbed off on Tiger growing up.......OTOH..remember the commericals he made when he first turned pro..with the lines.."I'm playing on gold courses they wouldn't let me join a few years ago"..or something like that.....I think that Tiger was "fed" those lines..and he was uncomfortable with them...

The same classy Tiger Woods who stiffed his host last year (Joe Jemsek..who was REAL class act)at the Western Open ?
Tiger has had his foot-in-mouth moments.
So far, nobody from the black community has openly hammered him for his penchant for blond/blue-eyed girlfriends, but methinks it's coming.

There are few sports like golf where you don't get your sports salary based on last year, but based on this week's play--and there is an accepted metric for success. This makes golfers both the most meritocratic among athletes and the most Republican.

My guess is that Tiger is a DINO (democrat in name only).

I guess that is why police and fire departments across the nation are fielding officers that reflect the community. Policing and fighting fires must not be results-oriented and performance based [end_sarcasm]

When party activists tried to recruit Michael Jordan to campaign against North Carolina Senator Jesse Helms, Jordan declined, retorting with the glib line "Republicans buy shoes, too."

Of course, that is the mindset of an expert marketer. Which brings up the question why the idiots in Hollywood contantly isolate large portions of the populations by their stupid actions and snide comments?

He's also an Army Brat, and soldiers tend to lean right as well.

The left has been trying to push sports stars into politics for some time — particularly African-American athletes. But they haven’t had much luck. While Republicans continue to field world-class Capitol Hill softball teams with athletes like J.C. Watts, Jim Ryun, Steve Largent, and Jim Bunning — and have budding stars in the works with John Elway, Steve Young and Karl Malone — the Democrats have mostly struck out.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to to see that pro athletes make a lot of money and want to keep it as much as any of us do. They see the same class warfare liberal democrat idiots ranting and raving about the "rich" being selfish, screwing the poor, etc. etc. A pro athlete making 10 mil. a year gives the govmint more in a year than most of us will pay in a lifetime. Not to mention most(?) athletes have set up foundations, charities, etc. to (gag) "give something back to the community."

Hollywood actors, on the other hand, are just stupid.
