Hey peanut man you are a loser. You made Americans embarassed and ashamed. For four years you fiddled while Iran crapped on the U.S.A. Ronald Reagan took less then a day to clean up your mess because he had balls. You Peanut man will forever be a worthless dog.

We cannot fault Jimmy Carter for the mission faliing. We can, however, fault him for not declaring war on the Iranians. If we went to war then, we might not have the problems with the Muslim world like we do now.

I think that Carter negotiated the release of the Iranian Embassy hostages, then he was thrown out of office. Just in time for President Reagan to welcome them home.

Well, actually Race we can. Carter had run down the capability of the military to the point where their equipment for the mission was marginal, e.g. the helicopters did not have desert capable air filters. Also, since this was primarily a political event not military, being as it was run from the White House, all branches of the service wanted a piece of the mission (budgets always in mind). The group that landed in Iran had not had much time to train together on a coordinated basis.

The result was that a transport taxied into a helicopter on the ground, and some other helicopters broke down. FUBAR!

Regards, big guy. Good seeing you on the Mall last Saturday.

Nope. The Iranians wanted to humiliate Carter, so they waited until he was no longer President to release the hostages.

Hey, Corin Stormhands: Ditto on the feeling old thing. I was in my dorm room when this came over the radio. Whoever is living in my old dorm now was not even born then. Oye.

Nope, The Irainians knew Reagan said what he meant, and meant what he said, unlike peanut head, and they knew with Reagan, "THE BOMBING WOULD START IN 5 MINUTES".

Previous to the taking of the US embassy, Carter's poll numbers were in the 20% range. Afterward, they shot up to the 60%+ range. Peanut boy used the hostage crises to his full advantage and he rarely left the White House until this rescue attempt failed. About a week after this event, he decided to begin campaigning.

The man was, is, and always will be a scumbag.

Hoo boy, have you got that one wrong!

Carter's negotiations, such as they were, were going NOWHERE! There had been no break throughs. No apologies on either side. Nothing. Nada.

Reagan had made it CRYSTAL CLEAR that in Carter's place he would have launched a full military response. The Iranian's knew this and as soon as Ronaldus Magnus won the election in November the Iranians started talking about releasing the hostages to forstall the impending attack. As soon as Ronnie was inaugurated in January, POOF, they are released.

It wasn't done to shame Carter, it was done to save their skins.

Speak softly and carry a big nuclear stick.

Jimmy, none of those reasons had anything to do with the failure. Filters were never an issue, the sandstorm did NOTHING to the machines, it only affected the vertigo of the pilots. The EAPS system had a RAM-AIR door that would have been wide open at speeds over 100 knots anyways, so even if they were left on, it would have made no difference; however, the sand was NOT an issue in the mission faliure.

Plus, Jimmy Carter's use of RH-53's was wise, because they were relitively new aircraft, especially when compared to the age of aircraft today. The training for the mission began 2 WEEKS after the embassy takeover, not months as some assume. Also, intelligence had to be made as to where all hostages were. And also, he did the right thing in using diplomacy first. My fault is, when we decided to go in for the rescue, and it failed, we should have declared war, and wiped them out!

Oh, by the way, the group tained in OUR deserts for months, they didnt need to train there, it HAD to be an in and out mission. Also, that Helicopter didnt taxi into the C-130, it flew on top of it. The C-130's were kicking up dust because they were runnig engines the entire time to prevent a non start on exit. The 53's also kicked up dust, and when that last ship moved to refuel, it got lost in the sand kicked up and landed on top of the C-130.
