I personally prefer the term 'Cheese-eating surrender monkeys.' It seems to cover most of the bases of French politico-military history.

Actually, as funny as it is to pick on the French, nearly every nation in Europe has surrendered at one time or other.

And we've all lost wars (US -- Vietnam, UK -- it's worldwide empire, etc.)

Thats not entirely accurate as every French victory is ommitted. For example, where is his famed battle at Austerlitz? At any rate, the French actually did not have such a defeatist attitude and unimaginative military until after Verdun in WWI.

Hmmmmmm. Where would we be without the hard-fighting Admiral DeGrasse at Yorktown? How about Lafayette? And Napoleon was no pushover if I remember correctly.

What's the matter? You cannot pick on the Muslims? Or what about blacks or Irish or lots of other folks. You are a coward. This Country would may have not been standing if it were not for the French. Maybe you ought to look at your founding fathers.

They left off Algeria.

And the undeclared war of 1798 with us (they lost).

And the WW II sideshows -- France vs. Thailand; France vs. Britain (Oran, Madagasgar, Syria;) France vs. US in North Africa. They lost them all of course.

Also the Mexicans did a pretty good job themselves of beating up the French. That's what Cinco de Mayo is all about.

And they forgot Haiti -- in which the French manged to be on the losing side of the only successful slave rebellion in the Western Hemisphere.

Thank the French! They gave so much.

My Father damned near died on D-Day minus one..in France. Then he damned near died in Baston, surrounded and out numbered, but he fought his way out anyway (where were those "brave" French troops to relieve him?). He fought across the Rhien to the heart of Germany. He liberated German consentration camps Ubergammergeau, and finally, Dachau. What my Dad saw could last thousands of livetimes in the mind of a Christian man. He freed France, and he paid his dues to the French People. Many Americans gave their lives for the liberation of France, now the French pi$$ on their graves.

Note to France: Got to Hell, and never darken my door again! Save youselves, you egotistical, elistist bastards! We've given enough blood.

Great French Surrender:

1756, Fort Necessity. Of course, they weren't the ones surrendering; that fell to the man they beat, a colonial by the name of George Washington.

France vs. Europe - War of Spanish Succession 1648 A.D. (France tries to fight rest of Europe over Spain and looses to Frederick William of Germany)

Punishing One, evidently the subject of history has kicked YOUR ass. The war that ended in 1648 was the 30 years war, or rather the final phase of the 30 years war, in which the French Bourbons under Louis XIV completeley defeated the Hapsburgs, which was solidified at the truce of Westphalia.

The War of the Spanish Successsion ended (Treaty of Utrecht 1713) with France getting EXACTLY what they wanted (an obedient Bourbon dynasty in Spain) and all of France's erstwhile allies getting screwed.

...France openly declared war on Great Britain and rendered invaluable aid to the American cause thereafter. The final military showdown at Yorktown, for example, was achieved with the help of a French army and a French navy which prevented the British from supplying or evacuating their soldiers....

Just saw your post because I've been on vacation in--you guessed it--France, actually, Paris.

Have had some hard feelings about the French in the past, but was treated so very well and so impressed with Paris, can't get too into the thread. Besides, they're getting sick of going left and high taxes, etc. that they may move center. We'll see.
