An earthquake felt from Maine to Pennsylvania rattled the Northeast Saturday morning with a preliminary magnitude measured at 5.1, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The earthquake hit just before 7 a.m. and was centered about 15 miles southwest of Plattsburgh, in northern New York near the Vermont and Canadian borders.

We used to have earthquakes a lot when I was a kid living in northern New England, oddly enough... usually small ones, though...

My cats went NUTS around 545 am CHICAGO TIME. Normally on Sat AM, they let me sleep until 7 before demanding Breakfast...this am, they were WHIRLING around the bedroom and wailing. I got up to feed them but they weren't interested....just agitated for about a half hour. Then they went back to sleep...weird huh..all the way in ChiTown.

i didn't notice a thing (sound asleep) but my daughter (who is usually the heavy sleeper in the house) said it felt like the washing machine off balance. she looked out the window to see what was happening and saw the neighbor guy fall on his butt.

I felt it here in Northeast PA. A slight tremor about 7:00 AM. It shook the house.

I can imagine the effect of a 7.0 or higher centered in NYC. I wonder how many skyscrapers would be left standing?
