Jenin massacre uncovering
AM - Friday, April 19, 2002 8:08
LINDA MOTTRAM: To the Middle East and as more information comes out of the cities of Jenin and Nablus on the West Bank, it's becoming clear that Israel will have to answer allegations that it's committed war crimes and crimes against humanity during its occupation of the West Bank.
One British forensic expert says the evidence points to a massacre by Israeli forces. That expert is Professor Derrick Pounder from Amnesty International who's inspected the devastation and examined some of the now rotting bodies that are still being pulled from the rubble in Jenin.
He says the truth will come out, just as it did in Bosnia and in Kosovo before and the UN envoy, Terje Roed-Larsen, who has also inspected the Jenin refugee camp says the sight is horrific beyond belief and that Israel's failure to allow in rescue teams was morally repugnant.
The ABC's foreign affairs editor Peter Cave reports from Jerusalem.
PETER CAVE: As he picked his way through a pile of rubble the size of several football fields which was once a crowded ghetto of houses in the refugee camp, Terje Roed-Larsen was clearly taken aback by the scale of the devastation, the bodies and the knowledge that many who died underneath were buried alive for days.
TERJE ROED-LARSEN: I think I can speak for all in the UN delegation here that we are shocked, this is horrifying beyond belief. Just seeing this area looks like as if there's been an earthquake here and the stench of death telling its own story around here.
PETER CAVE: Mr Roed-Larsen has called for a full withdrawal of Israeli forces and a lifting of a curfew in the area, not only to allow the retrieval of the dead but also to provide urgent help for those still alive.
DERRICK POUNDER: The stench of decaying corpses are all over the place. I saw personally an about 12-year-old boy being dug out, his body totally destroyed. I saw two brothers digging out of the rubble their father and their brothers.
There are people all over the place digging with their hands, looking for their relatives and dear ones. It's a horrible scene.
The devastation is nearly total at the heart of the refugee camp and we assess that about 2,000 people are now without roof over their heads. There's lack of food, there's lack of water, the electricity grids are destroyed, the water is cut.
It's a catastrophic situation particularly in the refugee camp but also in the whole town of Jenin.
PETER CAVE: Despite growing international outrage over the apparent massacre, the Israeli Government remains unrepentant. Foreign Ministry spokesman Gideon Meir.
GIDEON MEIR: Jenin is a symbol of Palestinian brutalitism. Jenin is a capital of suicide bombers. Jenin, there was a huge infrastructure of terror. We went there to fight the terrorist cells to eliminate terror. There was heavy fighting there and great fighting there. We lost 23 of our boys. Jenin is not a recreation area, Jenin is not a resort.
LINDA MOTTRAM: Israel's Foreign Ministry spokesman Gideon Meir, that report from Peter Cave in Jerusalem.
LOL! This is the funniest thing I've seen all week. But hey, dead terrorists are a gift to all.
Now, now...it's not nice to make fun of the mentally disabled.
:-)
And the Pallies started this war...Not Ariel Sharon. I felt terrible when Israel made weak responses to suicide bombers. Pallies overplayed their hand and after the Passover bombing (27 dead) the IDF was unleashed on the West Bank to kill and capture those who are killing Jews.
Pallies are responsible for the destruction and death on the West Bank and Jenin

YEAH! Sure! BWAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
Yes, terrorists stink when they decompose too. It's just that we see it happen so little these days, what with them blowing themselves up into such small pieces in hotel lobbies, pizza joints and shopping malls.
The source above pretty much torches the validity of the article anyway, but had Sharon engaged in such "horrific" tactics as implied he would've used aerial assault with the large and rather indescriminate munitions that can be so effectively employed in such an effort from the air. He wouldn't have gone house to house with infantry armed with rifles and grenades (far less effective for mass destruction (just ask any terrorist).
My, what a truly scientific assesment. That certainly convinces me. Looks like a slam dunk.
And just what is it that constitutes "war crimes and crimes against humanity"??
I would think that strapping 50 pounds of explosives to your ass and strolling into a hotel and detonating yourself in the middle of a crowd of people celebrating the first night of the most sacred holiday in the land, would qualify.
No big investigation there? Why not? Why isn't Arafag in irons? Why isn't anyone pointing fingers in disgust at him for this and at least a HUNDRED others like it? Why not?
Why not!!??
These U.N. buggers need to get their priorities straightened out or they're going to catch some stray ordnance while conducting one of their high-minded 'investigations' one of these days.
A massacre of whom, exactly? As in Viet Nam, where ten year old kids were killing American soldiers, who were then branded "baby killers" upon their return from Hell, the Palestinians turn their own babies into killing machines.
So, who, exactly is the enemy? How exactly do you react to a ten year old who is mowing down soldiers with a machine gun? What do you do when your own countrymen and their innocent families are being murdered in their beds on the Lebonese border?
Was what we did in Khandahar a "maassacre"?
Yes, the author is right: the truth will come out, as it did after Bosnia and Kosovo: instead of the tens of thousands of bodies we were told by the European media were buried in mass graves, only couple of thousand were found, and those bodies were found to most likely be combatants. If they were NOT combatants, it IS terrible...but it is still not on the exaggerated scale we were led to believe. On the other hand, a recent study by Switzerlad showed that NATO was responsible for a massacre which took place after NATO forces were deployed there.
The Saddam, Yasser, and various and assorted Afghan locals have been routinely exaggerating the scale of "civilian casualties" , relying on most of the West's convenient belief that "one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist" , for many years now.
Bring in the US forensic investigators. I don't trust the Muslim/China owned EU.
No it isn't. It's approx. 1,300 years in the making and it began by the Arabization and Islamization though the Jihad.
Look at the history of the region. During the Crusades (and they are still prominent in the Islamic mindset) the Arabs (known as Saracen and Turkomen) lost many of the engagements in the 300 years the European Knights occupied that area. But they were on their home turf and had long memories. They had no place else to go and kept fighting (and got better at it), while the West eventually lost interest and lost key battles.
Who gives a flying &^%^ what the Arabs claim. They were not on their HOME turf. The Arab Islamics invaded that area and over time took over fields , towns, villages, etc.. The Jihad had been going on for over 400 years from Spain to Asia before the First Crusade got off the ground and would not even have arisen had not the marauding Seljuk Islamic Turks been threatening the Eastern Empire. But here is the process which occured, not your revisionist Islamic take:
Arabization and Ethnic Cleansing
Arabization and Ethnic Cleansing (the fairy tale of "indigenous Palestinians" exposed (my title))
At the beginning of the conquest....the conquered populations of the Orient were still using their national languages: Aramaic (Iraq, Mesopotamia, Syria, Palestine), Coptic (Egypt), and Pahlavi (Persia), and the foundations of Arab power were still weak. Consequently, notwithstanding their repugnance, the caliphs and their governors had to resort to the services of local Christian or Jewish administrators, a situation which risked jeopardizing the performance of their power. It therefore became imperative to consolidate Islamic politico-military domination by a demographic increase in Arab numbers and by Muslim legislation to stabilize the situation....These two phases, which roughly corresponded to the period of Arabization under the Umayyads [661-750 A.D.] and of Islamization under the Abbasids [750-1517 A.D.] , definitely ensured the Arab-Muslim hold on the conquered lands and population. In fact, the postconquest period was a time of intensive Arab colonization dictated by strategic requirements. For whereas pursuit of the ongoing jihad procured considerable booty and cemented Islamic solidarity, these battles in far-off lands weakened the Arab military presence in the conquered countries. To mitigate this danger, Umar, and particularly Uthman, adopted a policy of Arab colonization pursued by their successors.
The continuous migration of whole tribes with their flocks---tribes originating from different regions of Arabia and often hostile to one another---not only created problems of settlement in towns and country areas that were among the most fertile and most highly populated, it also gave rise to difficulties regarding subsidies and cohabitation with the native population, the nomads being adverse to agricultural and urban occupations.
The flow of migration, duly controlled by the Arab military administration, was directed toward specific regions. Certain tribes joined up with military population centers: Basra and Kufa in Iraq, Fustat in Egypt for example: others received the vast domains farmed by the native inhabitants reduced to slavery or bond service (Iraq, Egypt, Spain, the Maghreb). In Palestine and Syria, tribes from Yemen and nomads from Hijaz settled in the towns and countryside where they took over houses and lands...
This Arabization had disastrous effects on the native populations, as the confiscation of lands by the invaders and the appropriation of houses and villages did not take place without plundering and abuse. This emigration had four major consequences. First, the total area of the conquered lands was seized by a tribe originating from Mecca, who exercised their military authority through nomadic Arab tribes. Second, the massive Arab emigration engendered endemic anarchy in countries where hitherto, in comparison with the native population, they had only constituted tiny minorities on the desert fringes.....Moreover, during this period of Arabization in the Near East, the caliph Abd al-Malik (685-705) forbade the use of native languages in the administration, replacing them with Arabic. Thus emigration into countries of settled civilization by nomads, who were strengthened in their bellicose habits by the ideology of jihad and by their victories, increased the instability, while plundering turned cultivated areas into deserts. (Bat Ye'or, The Decline of Eastern Christianity Under Islam (1996)pp.58-60).
The truth is out there for those who want to hear it. The IDF gave advanced notice to the innocents (if any) to get out of Jenin... that they were coming in for the terrorists...most left except for the terrorists who remained to do battle with the IDF...and battle they did. Under that rubble lies dead terrorists...So no, not so "hard to say" at all.
What would you do? Intelligence found that the homicide bombers were coming from Jenin. Would you sit back and do nothing allowing homicide bombers from Jenin to continue unabated? Or would you take action to defend your life and the lives of your people?
I already know what we would do under similar circumstance. ie The Branch Davidians down in Waco had harmed no one. There wasn't a single known terrorist amongst them. But our govt just thought they might be a threat and look what happened to them.
Do you really believe the nonsense that you just wrote? If so, do you believe it because you hate Jews or because you're easily deceived?
