For years, I kept the Rush Limbaugh Show on for three hours a day. Partly as background noise while I worked, but also for entertainment and information.
I always found Rush to be a bit more of a Republican than a Conservative, while I'm more of a bit more of a Conservative than a Republican. But most of the time we agreed, and even when we didn't - - I found him to be entertaining.
In recent weeks, Rush's show has become almost nonstop pro-Isreali propaganda. That would be fine, if it were not so boring.
In our area, there is no other political talk on the radio during this time slot.
Two weeks ago, I joined some of my other friends (also Rush defectors) and tuned into to sports talker Jim Rome.
I listened to the Smack Off today and found it somewhat entertaining.
Perhaps my addiction to politics has been broken.
Any clones out there?
Exactly my feeling. I sympathize with Israel, but their war against Arafat is a small battle compared to Bush's war against terrorism.
Bush has his priorities straight, even if Rush can't see it.
Recently picked up a Grundig eTraveller VII for work and walking. Been switching to Radio Kuwait when I can't
take Limbaugh's constant and terribly unclever pandering commercials, er callers to push his friggin' pay website.
I turned him off for months a few years ago when he would only take callers who wanted to talk about his line of ties.
Now, he's back to showing off his ear implant by changing the batteries in the middle of the show. What's up
with that? I heard him do it at least twice in the past two weeks. He has his "golden" mike, his
"Attila the Hun" chair. A "bionic" headset goes with the territory and is not worth mentioning unless it malfunctions.
(BTB, I do go back to check out Limbaugh when RW starts their religious programming - "And the prophet said..." garbage.)
First time I ever had a serious disagreement with Rush. Israel can take care of herself just fine with 4,000 tanks, an army nearing one million and an airforce which can fly 3,000 sorties a day (we can only handle 1,600).
The only reason I see Israel wants us tied so closely to her is to provide cover for what she does. We have enough hassle with the media and international organizations messing with our troops. We don't need to spend time explaining away Jenin or taking responsibility for it. 50 years down the line, we do not want Muslims worldwide to think this a Israeli/American operation against all Muslims.
Exactly the way I was thinking. And Bush doesn't seem to want to provide that cover. I think he is right in that decision. He might sympathize, but he doesn't want to be the cover.
He's coming from a simplistic, knee-jerk point of view on this.
Bush is not waffling, he's attempting to keep the Middle East from boiling over into general chaos.
Dubya knows that it is imperative that we eliminate Saddam Hussein, but we won't be able to do that if the whole of the Muslim world goes up in flames.
We need some help in the region, principally that of Turkey.
Bush has done nothing to restrain Israel, only engaged in a little mild criticism.
Meanwhile Israel kept right on doing what it was going to do anyway.
Arafat started this latest round of terror specifically to start a war which might save Saddam's bacon.
As it is, those who know reckon that he has set our plans back by six months or so.
Bush has to walk a very perilous tightrope here and Rush isn't helping matters one bit by causing doubts among Bush's conservative base about our Middle East policy.
Granted, coming up with something new and different 5 days a week isn't easy, but just how many clueless callers
can he bait? Just how many clueless callers can you stand to listen to?
Somewhat reminds me of tv/radio comedy skits of George Carlin.
I don't find a thing troubling about their assualt on Jenin. Jenin was a terrorist training camp, which had bomb factories in the middle of residencial neighborhoods, and it was common to see posters glorifying suicide bombers.
Israel suffered more than two dozen suicide bombers who came from Jenin.
I wouldn't blame Israel if they leveled Jenin.
