If I was in the govt., I admit I would be very tempted to lie and call it an accident if it was just one plane. Better to prevent panic than let the people know the truth and freak.

Just like on a landing, use your ailerons to counter crosswind, and rudder to keep alignment with the direction of flight. If you want to look good, otherwise just crab.

The Plane had oxygen. Senecas have a ceiling of about 25,000ft. Oxygen is required above 12,000ft. Wether or not it was in use is another issue.

Um...a TERRORIST???? Nah, that couldn't be. This was an accident...in a matter of merely an 1-1/2 hours, we have already determined that. ;-)

BTW..if WE are so sure it WAS an accident, than why is the Pentagon fielding questions???

Here's a scenario: old pilot having trouble with landing gear, reaches back or down to manipulate some controls(some guy on CNN reports that with some landing gear problems it might require some type of manual operation, I have no idea if that is true or not), suffers a heart attack due to the stress and exertion.

If this is a terrorist act, it must have been done by the Jihad farm team, because in comparrison to 9/11 it is pretty lame

I don't know. There are some similarities:

Tallest building
Financial district
Straight on hit into a high floor

CNN just reported pilot was 95 years old.

MSNBC called CNN's 95 and raised it to 105 years old.

The pressure on the structure increases with each floor damaged..I think the WTC was 95-104 so the 24-26 floors must be putting immense pressure on the structure.

I don't know where you are but as long as I keep sipping my drink and wear minimal clothes I feel fine.

No breeze in NYC and after my kids get home from school we are heading to the shore for a few hours of natural surf AC!!!!

"what are the odds of a plane hitting the tallest building in the earea"

A lot better than the odds of a plane hitting the shortest building in the area.

It accelerated and there was a second explosion? What is this about military helicopters in teh air also? This is getting more odd.

When the Florida kid crashed into the Tampa building, there was no such burn damage. Very suspect.

I heard just a little while ago that it was either a Piper Seneca or Sarratoga .. neither of which is a "small" plane. They seat 6 people. I'm hearing on MSNBC that the people from the ground said the plane was on fire when it hit, and the pilot radioed the tower with engine and landing gear problems.

So.... a) why didn't he glide away from the building -- my husband had to glide for more than 20 minutes in a Cessna 172 when going for his pilot's license.

b) anyone care to calculate the statistical probability that a plane will have engine trouble, catch fire, and then fly squarely into the top 5 or so floors of one of the most important buildings in Milan?

I don't think panic is a real factor behind governments' lies here. People are not going to panic over an attack that killed three people. They might well, however, retaliate against Moslems. And that is what I think governments fear.

Also on MSNBC the pilot is reported to be a well known person of age 60 to 65 years old. (It appears he had a lot of experience.)

For those of us stuck at work, how do they know exactly WHO was flying the plane? Obviously, there was a registered pilot who identified himself as the 65-year-old, but how do they know that was who was manning the controls?

Very unlikely this was an accident.

Thanks.

Now you guys sound like the French...refusing to accept facts. This was an accident. A twin engine can and did cause that much damage to a building. Get over it. It was an accident by a 70 year swiss man.
