(D) Wellstone in trouble in Minn Senate Race
St. Paul Pioneer Press ^

WASHINGTON — Sen. Paul Wellstone's campaign is struggling, getting support from just 42 percent of Minnesota voters, according to two recent partisan polls.

On Monday, national Democrats released a poll showing Wellstone, D-Minn., narrowly leading Republican challenger Norm Coleman by 42 percent to 40 percent.

Earlier this month, national Republicans released their own poll of Minnesota voters showing Coleman ahead, 49 percent to 42 percent.

The Wellstone campaign cites a history of close races, saying this is business as usual.

But two political analysts think the results spell trouble for the senator. Here's the full article

Get a grip. Doesn't the name of Judge Pickering ring a bell with you? Unless the Republicans knock Li'l Tommy Daschle off his hobbyhorse as Bolshevik (excuse me, "Majority") Leader of the Senate, there will be many more Pickerings.

Would it be ideal to have a Senate Majority in the hands od staunch conservatives? Of course. But Coleman is going to be the Republican nominee in Minnesota. If Wellstone is going to be kicked out, Coleman will have to do it.

When the new Senate meets in January, you can be certain that Wellstone will vote against the next Judge Pickering. He will also vote against the next JUSTICE Pickering, when it comes time for Bush to make his first nomination to replace a retiring Supreme Court Justice. You can be equally sure that if Coleman is there, he will vote FOR the next Judge (or Justice) Pickering.

Vladimir Lenin would be slightly more conservative than Wellstone.

Anyone who cares about the Constitution should work hard in every contested race to get the more conservative Republican nominated. But regardless of who wins the Republican nomination, if you care about the Constitution you should support ANY Republican who is running against a vulnerable Democrat.

In plain terms, that means suck it up and support Coleman against Wellstone. That means suck it up and support Thune against Johnson in South Dakota.

Yes, I know Thune voted for Shays-Meehan. Yes, I consider Shays-Meehan an abomination, and will be attacking it in the Supreme Court. But if you want better judges on the federal benches and better Justices on the Supreme Court, you need to think it through more than you have to date.

This first order of business when the Senate and the House meet in January after an election, is to adopt their Rules and elect their leaders. Normally, the leaders of each party from the last Session of Congress, hold their positions in the new one -- moving up to Majority Leader of the Senate and Speaker of the House, if their party has a majority of the seats.

But this is not guaranteed. There will be an election in the House and Senate. I sincerely hope that when (not if) the Republicans take back a majority in the Senate, that they choose a vertebrate as Majority Leader. That would rule out Trent ("Notta") Lott for the job.

(Hastert is a shoe-in for reelection as Speaker of the House.)

Tator, my friend,

I was reading through this lengthy and lucid post, and rereading it line by line to make sure I was following it correctly and with care. As I got toward the end, I said to my self, "Self," I said, said I, "this is a damn fine analysis written by someone with more than a passing familiarity with the use of the English language."

I always save the dessert for last. So with good posts, I don't find out who wrote it (other than the inimitable styles of Iowahawk and John Huang2) until the end. Then I saw it was your work. And I said, "Why. of course."

There yu go again, using logic in the midst of a Collesium full of true-belieing lions. Well, you've survived before. You'll survive this time, too.

Support Our Brother Coleman

As previous posts have shown, Norm is not a RINO and he deserves our special support.

WooHoo!! Paul Welfare is a cancer in the senate, albeit not quite the tumor my own Senator (ugh, hard to type that) is, but no less malignant.

On Saturday, our Teen Age Republicans group (I am the chairman) went to the Scott County BPOU Convention. We were there to help Norm Coleman. We got people to sign up to join the Norm Coleman Network (they specify if they want to get a bumper sticker, put up a yard sign, make lit drops, make phone calls, ect…) We also got to meet Norm Coleman when he got there (he was one of the speakers). Most of the people we asked to sign up agreed to sign up! We ran out of sheets so we had to use plain paper. If any of you live in minnesota you can join the network and beat Sen. Weaslestone (stole my dad's nickname for wellstone there). Here is a link

But he'd be BETTER than Wellstone, right?

Wrong!

Almost anyone would be better than Wellstone. What's a matter with you?

"What's the matter with you?"

Unlike MOST candidates for public office, I've spent 30 years studying the Constitution and don't give a damn if it's a Wellstone OR a Coleman who sells me down the river.

I'm still down the river -- along with my 4 grandkids.

Why don't some of you ask Mr. Coleman if he HAS read the document (and the Notes of The Convention so he can grasp the INTENT of the drafters) BEFORE he swears an oath to God to preserve, protect and defend it.

Kinda hard if one has never -- you know -- actually READ it!
