Amid the ruins of Jenin, the grisly evidence of a war crime

- Phil Reeves in Jenin, 16 April 2002
excerpts from article

A monstrous war crime that Israel has tried to cover up for a fortnight has finally been exposed. Its troops have caused devastation in the centre of the Jenin refugee camp, reached yesterday by The Independent, where thousands of people are still living amid the ruins.....

Building after building has been torn apart, their contents of cheap fake furnishings, mattresses, white plastic chairs spewed out into the road. Every other building bears the giant, charred, impact mark of a helicopter missile. Last night there were still many families and weeping children still living amid the ruins, cut off from the humanitarian aid. Ominously, we found no wounded, although there was a report of a man being rescued from beneath ruins only an hour before we arrived.

Those who did not flee the camp, or not detained by the army, have spent the bombardment in basements, enduring day after day of terror. Some were forced into rooms by the soldiers, who smashed their way into houses through the walls. The UN says half of the camp's 15,000 residents were under 18. As the evening hush fell over these killing fields, we could suddenly hear the children chattering. The mosques, once so noisy at prayer time, were silent.

Israel was still trying to conceal these scenes yesterday. It had refused entry to Red Cross ambulances for nearly a week, in violation of the Geneva Convention. Yesterday it continued to try to keep us out. Jenin, in the northern end of the occupied West Bank, remained "a closed military zone", was ringed Merkava tanks, army Jeep patrols, and armoured personnel carriers. Reporters caught trying to get in were escorted out....

Actually, I take all that back. You have to read the whole article. The excerpts don't do it justice.

We don't "dance in the streets" unless there is a hellofa great band, lotsabeer and prettygirls... I know, cuz I saw it on M-TV....

we do however get excited and send more marines, b-1's and b-2's, warthogs and abrahms tanks. Of course our air force does overnight deliveries of thermobaric bombs to three by three foot targets anywhere in the planet...

Dancing with the bomber boys... now that is rock-n-roll.

Actions have consequences. At what point will Arab minds grasp this? The actions are taken by them, of their own free wills. The consequences have simply been brought closer to their own homes.

Moral for parents: Send Abdul to bomb an Israeli pizza parlor, and your own home and family may be destroyed. Its like the lesson of Hiroshima, on a smaller scale. No trouble out of Japan, since 1945.

A friend sent me an article, from a British paper, observing how Arabic translations of "Mein Kamph" were big sellers at London bookstores and newsstands. Perhaps the Arabs-Islamists-Palestinians should read further, about the consequent results of Hitler's and Japan's adventures.

But if they don't learn soon from history, they are "cruisin for a bruisin." It'll get solved, one way or another.

I've got an idea. Why don't you organize your own rally to show solidarity with Arafat, Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden? That will really keep them off our backs.

roflmao. twas funny.

A lot of folks are forgetting we are in a war. Wars do not allow for nice distinctions, or much sitting on the sidelines. Those who want to live between the trenches are going to have some heavy going.

Since Our Beloved FRaternal Repubic has existed, America always was the Hesporophobic's Primary Target, is the Hesporophobic's Primary Target and always will be the Hesporophobic's Primary Target.

The Hesporophobic islamanazis, mostly Wahabi Saudis and every-bit-as-envy-motivated and hatred-and-rage-driven Iranians who use the poor dumb bastards we usually see referred to as "palestinians" as weapons of war, think of Israel as an outpost of Western [American, that is!] Civilization -- and not primarily as a "Jewish" entity.

From the point of view of the manifestation of evil that attacks Our Judeo-Christian Civilization at its Israeli location, Israel's Jewishness is more handy for the power it gives them to divide and conquer Americans than it is incitement to attack Israel and Israelis.

Actually, I take all that back. You have to read the whole article.

Took your advice, and read the article. There are a lot more colorful descriptive phrases, with the following signifigant facts: there were 6 dead bodies; there was a smell of death; a survivor claimed there were 30 dead bodies in a mass grave where a building had been; other witnesses claimed that hundreds had been killed. That is, at least 6 people were killed and the Palis claimed, without evidence, that there were many more. Of course the reporter was just another dhimmi, like the rest of us, good only to be lied to.

Amid the ruins of Jenin, the grisly evidence of a war crime

If what the Israelis did to Jenin fits the definition of a "war crime", then just about every battle in world history in which one side convincingly defeated the other could also meet the definition.

To put it politely, this article is pure balogna. The allegations are utterly rediculous. The only mistake the Israelis made was in not allowing the journalists in to be killed by the pali boobytraps and snipers or to be blown away by suicide bombers.

I love this argument. The IDF was so concerned for the welfare of the reporters (at whom it usually shoots rubber bullets and throws stun grenades) that it kept them out of Jenin to save their worthless treasonous asses.

I>If indeed an atrocity has been committed, the blame - rightly or wrongly -- will be placed on America's shoulders.

Ridiculous

I don't know how ridiculous it is, given that a million Moroccans were demonstrating against Israel AND the U.S. the other day. Israel is a pariah nation and we're her best friend.

They all needed to die... alexander said "NEVER leave an enemy standing.... never" and he was right.

And they were right in the Old Testament too, weren't they, when God told them to smite everyone including the children? I love this child-smiting justification--God wants us to. And the Arabs are so primitive (the ultimate "other") the don't understand anything but vengence anyway.

These are the same idiots that said we were torturing the "poor" guys down in Cuba...

If what happened in Jenin is a "war crime", all of WWII was a war crime.

When the balloon goes up, you are either going to be in the trenches with us, and the Jews, or you are going to be in the trenches with the Islamists. Neutrals will be shot at by both sides, so you will have to decide which side you are on.

Actually, I think, this you-are-with-us-or-against-us dichotomy is nuts. The truth is, there are far more of us who think both sides are nuts. If any one is going to be shot, it's the two nut-case sides, not the sensible middle.

The "civilians" are the enemy you don't seem to grasp that the few innocents among the Palestinians are executed as "collaborators".

Hah! The English.

They pride themselves on how superior their newspapers are to American papers (Penis Envy).

Yet they do not seem to teach the difference between reports and editorials in journalism school.

The writer saw 7 dead bodies. All men. But he magically concluded that 100's are buried. After all, he was told that there were bodies there.

A shame really. Britian was once so great. Now our checkout tabloids even beat their journalism. A pity...

The truth is, there are far more of us who think both sides are nuts.

What you think is irrelevant. These people are out to kill all Americans, just because they are Americans. If they set off a nuclear weapon in your town, are you going to survive because you think the US is nuts? Either you are going to help this country and civilization defend itself, or you are going to attack this country, or you can run and try to hide. But when they come for us, they will find you, and they will kill you, just as quickly as if you had been loyal.
