Dear Mr. President:

We write out of deep concern over your response to the recent events in the Middle East. While we appreciate the importance of sending Secretary of State Colin Powell to the region, we are troubled by certain developments that have occurred during his trip. By urging the resumption of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA), before the PA officially abandons their policy of suicide homicides against civilian populations, you have dramatically changed your steadfast policy towards not meeting with Chairman Arafat until he commits to a cease?fire.

As long as Arafat continues to support and fund terrorists, it is difficult to conceive that any progress can be made from meeting with him. Most worrisome, a meeting between Secretary Powell and Chairman Arafat in light of today's attack in Jerusalem validates the contention that Arafat is gaining ground through his strategy of terror.

If Secretary Powell meets with Chairman Arafat, we hope that the Secretary will make it clear that this is his final opportunity. In the past, Mr. Arafat has proven himself to be unreliable in following up with commitments to peace. Consequently, we believe that Secretary Powell should demand that Mr. Arafat act to eradicate the terrorist networks operating under his authority. Secretary Powell should make clear that if he does not comply, the United States will sever all ties with him.

Finally, we are dismayed by the pressure on Israel to withdraw from Palestinian towns before the Israeli military has had a chance to complete its operations. As the United States knows from its experience in Afghanistan, an operation of this kind takes time. If Israel is not allowed to complete its campaign, more Israeli lives will be vulnerable to future rounds of suicide bombings. If there is to be peace, Israel needs to isolate those elements of the Palestinian Authority that threaten its existence.

Hillary wants the jihad to continue, and to spread. She wants Mubarak overthrown, the house of Saud to fall, the Islamic killers to take over all over the Middle East.

There is still chance for peace, slim yes, but there. But if things go on, it could get ugly real fast.

Venezuela - test case. U.S. did not get involved. Our armed forces are stretched thin. Our military-industrial complex can take on any single front, but three fronts at once? Not good - it will take time to rebuild our army - supplies aren 't great, and many outfits are in "peacekeeping" without enough logistical support.

I think I know how this will play out. We will emerge victorious, but it will be a hard struggle. And WTC and Afghanistan will be seen as the start, not the end.

Humanity has not changed that much since 1936. We are stronger economically, but less in will. Yet the center holds.

it does seem disloyal..... The democrats have indeed been acting against the interest of this country in their criticism of the adminstration's action in the Israeli-Palestinian war. Their thirst for power has no bounds, they will damage this countrys prestige, if they think that they can gain an advantage over the Republicans in November. They will do anything to retain their majority in the Senate by hook, or by treason. The clintons have shown the democrats the way.

At any rate nature abhors a vacuum and since Bush cannot make up his mind as to what to do the usual cast of suspects will show up to pretend they have a clue. GW needs to start acting like a leader or these clowns will have him on the run by Summer. People like Clinton know no mode of operation except to attack and destroy their opponents. This is not Texas. Charm and compromise will not work with this crew.

I'm very glad that you are willing to give this Administration a chance to do what they think is best for America. It is going to be tough going for all Americans. 9.11 is just the begining, and may well envolved(I pray not) the USA going after all radical arabs to protect our Freedom, and our lives. There are many islamic leaders out there who continue to preach extreme hatred for America, and it seems at the moment that they have the ear of the people of most Islamic countries. I have no doubt that the GWB Administration will use the full power of the USA when all options for a peaceful solution has been exhausted. GWB has shown this in Afghanistan.

I have been worried about the spread of Islam since Time ran an article about 8 years ago. Israel will loose out to demographics in he next 50 years. The arabs are growing at 3-4 times the rate of the Jews.

We'll see what Bush xcan do in the short-term to change their attitudes.

I expected this discussion would arise today. I was listending to Chuck Schumer and Chuck Hagel on the radio last night and found myself agreeing with Schumer more than with Hagel. I was so confused! How could it possibly happen? And now, to top it all off, Hillary signs on. Sounds like purely a political move on her part. I guess I'm not the only one who is freaked out by agreeing with them.

This raises an interesting question. Obviously she's pandering to her Jewish constituents because she’s afraid of losing her Senate seat. But if she adopts this pro Israeli line, she’ll alienate the rest of her liberal (pro palestinian) supporters and weaken her shot at the presidency. Caught between a head place and a rock. Israel will lose out....... This why it is vitally important for Israel to try their outmost to settle their differences with the Palestinians peacefully. I'm sure President GWB knows this, and is doing what he can for the good of both the Israelis, and the Palestinians. I(and all of us of goodwell) pray GWB succeeds for the sake of that troubled region, and thus ours.
