IT'S A HARMFUL illusion to think that tapping an Alaskan wildlife refuge will help this country's energy woes. The oil remains far away, costly to extract and limited in quantity. Drilling will be destructive to a unique and fragile region.

I never said that the oil deposits in ANWR are Insignificant as far as profit is concerned. I was refering it compared to the national daily oil intake. It won't be nearly enough to ween us off MEast oil.

Can you imagine finding one single oil field that would ween wean us off mideast oil? Or do you suppose maybe it will take ANWR and everything else we can come up with, including reasonable (does not cost signifiacant lives and jobs) conservation steps?

If noone is interested in the relatively immediate funding and transitional use of new fuel sources, we might as well use this terrorism thing to our advantage, and go after every Oil producing Arab state.

After we have unseated Saddam, we can have plenty of oil at our disposal, and not bother building needless infrastructure that would endanger alaskan wildlife.

Those who are interested in information on ANWAR and the true value of petroleum (it's WAY more than just gas, I'm sure you know), check out this non-profit website: www.servicecorps.net. They are trying to educate people on petroleum. If you can afford to make a contribution and/or want a "Save a Tree, Buy an SUV" bumper sticker, there's a place for both. These folks want to take out ads on television and in Northeast publishing outlets to tell the Yanks and the tree huggers the true costs of failing to drill ANWAR. HAPPY VIEWING.

Well, I'm actually in favor of continuing research to develop alternative fuels, etc. Hydrogen fuel cells, for example. But there's got to be a long transition period for that. In the mean time, it's shear folly to ignore possible billions of barrels of oil in Alaska that we can focus our new, clean technologies to recover. And saying that it will spoil a pristine wilderness is just plain false testimony. That's what people are trying to tell you. Open your mind!

Truly, you must have never performed an honest day's work. When and if new fuel sources become economically viable, people will utilize them. Until that time, people will use oil because it provides the most "bang for their buck". Pretty simple stuff, KYE.

I'm with Homer on this one. I stand nothing to gain from drilling in alaska. Why should some big oil buddies of Bush get rich, and Alaska suffers.

We should look into developing new forms of fuel, because in 80 or so years this planet's gonna be tapped out. And if that doesn't concern you, then think on our current Meast prediciment.

You are not allowed to participate in this argument until you (1) get some facts, (2) can think beyond what you "stand to gain" or (3) develop a new fuel in which I can heat my home and run my car.
