MEDIA ADVISORY

JUDICIAL WATCH UNCOVERS FORMER INS COMMISSIONER MEISSNER’S ORDERS TO DESTROY EVIDENCE IN DECISION TO RETURN ELIAN GONZALEZ TO CUBA AND SUBSEQUENT, ILLEGAL RAID ON GONZALEZ FAMILY HOME

Press Conference For Release of Documents

Date: April 10, 2002

Time: 8:00 AM

Place: Sheraton Biscayne Bay

495 Brickell Avenue

Parlor 3

Miami, FL

(Washington DC / Miami) Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced that tomorrow, April 10, 2002, it will release documents revealing former Immigration and Naturalization Service (“INS”) Commissioner Doris Meissner’s orders to destroy evidence and obstruct justice in the illegal raid that returned Elian Gonzalez to Communist Cuba that resulted in the beating and gassing of dozens of peaceful protestors by INS agents. The documents were produced for the first time today in a trial before the Merit Systems Protection Board (“MSPB”), in Miami, concerning charges of retaliation against INS Special Agent Rick Ramirez, by his supervisors in the Miami District Office of the INS. An INS attorney, Diana Alvarez, produced the documents during sworn testimony in the hearing. Ramirez is an INS whistleblower who initially revealed the INS and Justice Department obstruction of justice and anti-Hispanic prejudice that pervaded the Elian Gonzalez saga.

The documents reveal that the U.S. government had information indicating that Juan Miguel Gonzalez (Elian’s father) had sought to leave Cuba for the United States. They also reveals the U.S. government was aware that Juan Miguel wanted Elian to stay in the U.S. and that the father was being coerced by the Castro regime.

INS attorney Rebeca Sanchez-Roig notes that she was ordered to destroy all documents, but retained a copy of the e-mail because she believed Meissner’s destruction orders to be improper.

Copies of the documents will be made available at the press conference.

Judicial Watch had every right to buy out a full page ad in the Washington Times when they were denied a booth space at this year's C-PAC Conference. I am glad that they wouldn't let David Keene get his last word in edgewise.

As for the word, NAIF, sorry about that one. I am not always familiar with slang words.

Yep, that's true. We all desperately wanted to believe, and we were fooled. It's a shame, it really is, that others now refuse to learn from those of us who know better.

Did you know who ( yes, I know who you mean ) really say that he's sue you ?

Hmmm, where did I hear this before? Let me think… oh yeah, I remember we used to post these facts. I very much doubt Larry is going anywhere with that information. As he indicates he will just release INS documents to destroy evidence and obstruct justice in the illegal raid that returned Elian Gonzalez to Cuba.

I believe that this new information will garner the media attention for this issue that it deserves.

The sad truth is that nothing can be done to help little Elian and his family to get out of Cuba. It does prove that the clinton gang broke the law once again. One day they will stand before Jesus Christ and then nothing can help them.

Consider it in the vestiges of your mind, that perhaps your opinion of Larry Klayman and Judicial Watch is inaccurate and flawed. You may have let the numerous ad hominem attacks of Judicial Watch and Klayman on this forum get to you.

--to answer your question, around the exact day george bush repeated the words to the oath of office I believe.

There have been several dramatic shifts around here. for instance, pre 9-11, most free trade and immigration threads were running 90%+ "in favor" of those concepts. Post 9-11 saupport for those policies has dropped tremendously. Although I don't exactly recall a single freeper admitting to a change of heart, it's sorta easy to see the tone has changed.

Pre- the latest admin change, any news article discussions about FOIA documents and the government ran along the lines of "give the documents up, whaddya got to hide scumbags". Now, well.....

There's independent conservatives interested in uncovering decades of past 'government" abuse, then there's partisan private political party supporters who are only interested in trying to seize the government for their political party's profit, two different sets of folks there. When the dems do it here, it's condemened. if a repub does it on dorks unlimited they are condemned. but iof it's theeir own party "in charge" of government at the time-then see no eveil and etc. Ya see, only slimeball dems blindly support their party or "leaders" no matter what is going on, the "adults" would never do anything like that..... uh huh

Judicial watch has good points and bad points, IMO, but all in all, like exactly how many conservative law firms/orgs are out there actually trying to uncover government scandals? Two?

I think of them rather like the NRA. Basically I'm a full 2nd supporter, I think the NRA mostly sucks, but also realise they are one of a small handful of orgs trying to at least do something. oh well.

Reality is, most "conservatives" like "liberals" are perfectly content to let this "they" guy do whatever for them.

I've been involved in two court cases against "the man". lemme tell ya, it sucks, it's scary, sometimes late at night when you notice you are alone, no one gives a crap, you realise the system is 100% rigged totally unlawfully and unethically and immorally from the gitgo against you, and after the latest death threat, well, sometimes ya just want to give up.

I won both times.

It still sucked.

I sympathise wioth larry tremendously, even if he ain't won a lot, he's kept some of the juicier stuff going, and like this article, comes up with some gems sometimes. I wish we had 100 judicial watchs and southeast legal foundation orgs out there right now, but there's no support in this nation for any of that.

Pick the lowest ranked national college football team, they get more media coverage than the sum total of the real national scandals/gov abuses, and they get more financial support. Shows ya were most folks heads are at.

People are just not gonna care until their own door gets kicked in, or their kid gets shot in the face, or some bureaucrat destroys their lives on a whim , for something to do before lunch when they are bored. THEN they decide to get involved, before that-talk-complaints- mostly.

In my vestiges I know what I experienced by donating to Judicial Watch. I was ripped off. He's never done anything but be an annoying little gnat.

And, I am not a part of any "group think" and most others here aren't either.

" NAIF " is a perfectly good word, and I spelled it correctly ! If I had wanted to use the word " naive ", I would have done so. What's your problem, with perfectly good words, used correctly ?

So, you sent this thread to your 15 year old son, and that's supposed to impress me, and the rest of us ? That you are indoctrinating him, or that you're showing him both sides ?

Unless you have changed your nic, you are a very new newbie, and therefore, haven't enough information, concerning Larry, the ambulence chaser, to know what his history here is, nor why he is held in such disreput by most. Suffice it to say that any press release, by Judicial Watch, is now regarded as no news. Larry has not ever managed to win a suit. He whinged and whined about the candidate George W. Bush, and the brand new President Bush. I am not going to write a bok about all of this. Since you evidently hold Larry in such great esteme, and are soooooo interested in him, go read the FR archives. Enlighten yourself.

Gee, just HOW did you miss it, I did stay on topic and talk abut this thread's article. You just don't like what I posted. Now, please, dont attempt to change the topic. I am not the topic of this thread.

I agree with you. Apparently, the 4th Amendment meant nothing to the Clinton Administration. There are only a few exceptions to a warrantless search of one's home, which include consent, hot pursuit, and fear of imminent violence. The Elian Gonzalez situation fit none of these categories.

If the INS documents are as clear and explicit as JW says they are, then that will be a significant break in the Elian story and Clinton Administration mischief in this affair.

The documents will speak for themselves, regardless of the messenger who releases them.

Well, I respectfully and vehemently disagree with you. I have followed Judicial Watch cases closely since I was in high school. One quick example was when Klayman subpoenaed Clinton fundraiser John Huang in 1996. It was because of Klayman's FOIA suits against the Commerce Department that we found out that the Clinton Administration was selling overseas trade missions to the highest bid for his presidential campaign chest. It was also the publicity that Klayman generated that sparked some tough congressional investigations into the Chinagate Scandal and Lippogate Scandals. In 1996, Klayman also forced fomer Clinton aide Harold Ickes to testify and got Pentagon spokesperson Ken Bacon to admit under oath that he leaked damaging information about Clinton whistleblower Linda Tripp, to the press. Because of Klayman's lawsuits and the revelations/facts that came from them, the government then fined John Huang $8 million in fines for campaign finance violations. John Huang will probably not commit these crony crimes again. Being cynical is always easy, but please, please, look at all the facts before arriving at so harsh a conclusion.

Judicial Watch is also prosecuting the $90 million class action lawsuit on behalf of those whose FBI files were stolen and misused by the Clinton White House. Judicial Watch also exposed this e-mail scandal in 2000, through the representation of Sheryl Hall, Betty Lambuth, among others. The court is considering whether to commence criminal contempt proceedings.

Besides, who do you think sparked the Chinagate scandal? It was Klayman's FOIA request to the Department of Commerce that sparked a congressional investigation into Lippo, etc. It was Klayman who uncovered the fact that the Clinton Administration was selling overseas trade missions to those who would contribute the most to his presidential campaign war chest.

Perhaps this will be the time when the Clinton Administration's failings in regards to abuses of American citizen's 4th Amendment rights, etc. are brought to light.

Oh my goodness, that's some switch on the old " who are you ging to believe, me or our lying eyes " !

You poor , benighted naif ... I have my own mind , and am NOT so easily influenced. You are the one, who is putting your hopes in a charlatan and claimong that those who disagree ( with jst cause and mnay good reasons ) are in the wrong. Well. just keep beliving, and sending Larry your money; I know that he'll appreciate ... the money.

Since you want to debate the worthiness of ALL of Larry's suits, leaving out te ONLY ONE that he managed to win, please, out of the hundreds he has filed, name me three, that have aterialized into anything at all even resembling a " win ".

Over ruled. You don't call someone a naive; however, you DO call someone a " naif ". It's NOT slang, and is a perfectly good word. It's not my fault if some people are vocabulary challenged around here.

BTW ... BUTT OUT ; NO ONE WAS TALKING TO YOU !

Most of us were hornswoggled. We wanted to " believe " Larry talked a great game, and delivered NOTHING , but an inundation of begging letters ; sometimes five a week ! When most began flinging back dollar bills , and asking for the same , or more back, we tweaked that this was a pyramid scam .
