Dobson to Californians: Quit public schools Family advocate says 'I think it's time to get our kids out'

Leading family advocate James Dobson has urged California parents to leave the state's government school system.

"In the state of California, if I had a child there, I wouldn't put the youngster in a public school," the president of Focus on the Family said in his daily radio broadcast Thursday.

"I think it's time to get our kids out," Dobson said. "And I'm going to get hit for (saying) that."

A lobby group called the Alliance for the Separation of School & State said Dobson's "comments on the state of public schooling may mark a key turning point in the critical education discussion."

Dobson has more than 5 million listeners in the U.S. and is heard in another 100 countries.

"For years, James Dobson has supported three options for Christians: public schools, Christian schools and home schooling," alliance president Marshall Fritz said in a statement. "With (Thursday's) courageous and insightful statement, Dr. Dobson joins the millions of Americans who have concluded that many public schools are no place to train new generations of Americans."

Fritz's group has an online "Public Proclamation for the Separation of School and State" that has garnered more than 15,000 signatures. The petition calls for the end of government involvement in education.

He notes endorsement of the concept by religious leaders such as D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Ministries in Florida; T.C. Pinckney, recently elected second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention; Tim LaHaye, author of the popular "Left Behind" series of novels; and Rabbi Daniel Lapin of Toward Tradition.

In a speech at the National Religious Broadcasters convention in February, Dobson noted that the California legislature has mandated the teaching of "homosexual propaganda" in the state's public schools.

"They're teaching them that bisexuality is normal and that homosexuality and heterosexuality are morally equivalent," Dobson said.

On its website, however, Focus on the Family maintains there is still hope for public schools in general.

An article titled "Rebuilding Hope for Public Schools" states: "Schools still face formidable foes: postmodern secular teaching and liberal agendas, policies that need to change, overly large classes, problems with discipline and the need for higher academic standards. But if ... we mix prayer with works, if parents are actively and prayerfully involved in their children's education, the evidence shows that public schools can change."

Good job for Dobson. It would be better if the folks could take their school tax dollars out of the system along with their children.

In this case, I thing frequent re-posts are a good idea. Not many mothers get a chance to monitor FR daily. This is a courageous and committed man. Hope it catches on.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have anything positive to say about Grayout Davis? Seriously, what has he done to better the state of California. Name one thing.

Well, he improved the public schools. How do I know this? When he was elected he said he would not run for re-election if the schools did not improve during his term. He is running for re-election. Ergo, the schools must have improved.

With hope, it'll be the same thing they say about Jimmy Carter: He got a conservative elected.

Don't bother you'll just give yourself a migraine...although he has proven to be the best thing yet for the CA Republican party like Klinton was for the GOP. GRAY DAYvis has solidified the GOP in CA and much of the independent electorate against him. His poll numbers are disastrous for him and fantastic for the GOP.

You go, Dobson!

I am so glad we got out years ago. It's only going to get harder, as the State Reconditioners see their exclusive franchise increasingly threatened.

Get out while you still can!

He kept the printing presses running at the LEFT Angeles Times and The San Francisco Chronicles. He gave us permission to drive over bridges (if we felt like it) after a bomb threat was made. He allowed 11 power plants that were already under construction to be completed. I could go on but have you ever tried typing while rolling on the floor?

What took him so long!? For years he kept saying that public education was not that bad.

Perhaps the strongest voice ever heard on this subject was that of R. J. Rushdoony who nearly 40 years ago exposed public education for little more than government sponsored brainwashing. He wrote two books that are especially noteworthy on this topic and which are still in print: Intellectual Schizophrenia and The Messianic Character of American Education.

And here are a couple of good reasons...John Dunphy in The Humanist 1983 said “The battle for man-kinds future must be won in the classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as proselytizers of a new faith that will replace Christianity”

Adolph Hitler said….”Let me control the textbooks and I will control the state. The state will take youth and give to youth it’s own education and it’s own upbringing. Your child belongs to us already….what are you?”

Dr. W. Pierce of Harvard University said in 1973…”Every 5 year old student is mentally ill, because he comes to school with allegiance toward founding fathers, institutions, government, patriotism, nationalism and sovereignty - all of these prove the child is sick because the well individual is one who has rejected all of these things and is what I call a true international child of the future”.
