Top Hamas bomber Adwan killed with five accomplices

Israel's military incursion into the West Bank, going into its 10th day this morning, attained one of its main goals on Friday when it killed leading Hamas military operative Kayes Adwan and five other armed Palestinians in an exchange of fire in the village of Tubas, east of Nablus.

Adwan is considered responsible for planning the Passover attack on the Park Hotel in Netanya in which 26 Israelis were killed, for the Sbarro pizzeria attack in Jerusalem in August, when 15 Israelis died, for a Haifa bus explosion in December which caused 16 fatalities, and for recruiting the suicide bomber who carried out last week's attack on the Matza restaurant in Haifa, where 16 people were killed. Adwan has been viewed by Israel forces as involved in recruiting bombers and planning attacks involving the death of at least 74 Israelis.

Adwan, 25, a former student at A-Najah University who was raised in the Jenin refugee camp, tried to flee with a number of comrades to villages near Nablus. Israeli border police, aided by the military and the Shin Bet, caught up with him and five other armed fighters in Tubas. Israel has spent more than a year trying to track down Adwan and the army's entry into the West Bank finally cut off his escape routes.

The other five Palestinian fighters killed were identified as Ashraf Dragma, 29, from Tubas, who headed Hamas military operations in the village, and was considered responsible for an attack in the Jordan Valley that killed an IDF officer three weeks ago; Saad Awad, 25, from Rafiah, suspected of having prepared explosives for suicide bombers and preparing rockets; Majid Balasma, a 26-year-old Fatah activist from the Dir-Sharaf near Nablus, who was believed to have aided Awad; Mohammad Kamil, 28, of Hamas, considered to have been involved in the Matza and Jordan Valley attacks; and Munqaz Mohammad Suafta, 29, of Hamas from Tubas, where the five other activists slept.

Palestinian sources reported that Nasser Awis, head of the military wing of the Tanzim in Balata refugee camp and considered responsible for numerous terror attacks, had been killed in a mysterious explosion during the IDF's incursion into Nablus. IDF sources dismissed the report.

..tried to flee...

Yep, they try to flee instead of eating a grenade. Suicide is for the foot soldiers.
