Tell Gov. Mark Warner To Stop Pandering to the Gun Lobby

Gov. Mark Warner caved in to gun lobby extremists by signing SB 593 which will overturn Alexandria's law against concealed handguns in city buildings. SB 593 is an extreme measure that prohibits local cities from passing any local rules to keep guns out of government buildings. Public safety should not be jeopardized just to appease the gun lobby. . Please use this link to contact Gov. Mark Warner and tell him you oppose hidden handguns in city buildings and he should stop pandering to the gun lobby extremists.

I didn't think Warner would do it, but he did. Kudos to him, whatever his reasons are. I'll give credit where it is due. At least he respects gun owners as a political force.

Mark Warner courted the NRA in his run for Virginia Governor. He knows which side his bread's buttered on and he told the gun banners to take a hike. And with a GOP State Legislature in the Old Dominion State, gun control isn't a popular proposition with the voters there. Or any where in the South for that matter.

Don't give him too much credit. The law invalidated a bureuacratic administrative order of the City Manager in Alexandria, VA (never voted upon by freely elected legislators) that banned guns from City Hall, recreation centers, etc. The penalty was a small fine (I believe $50). No one particular cared about this, and locals viewed it the same way they viewed other meaningless ordinances, like the "nuclear free" ordinances passed in places like Berkeley. No other jurisidiction in Virginia had a similar rule, so this was a painless one to sign. Using this as cover, he signed other liberal bills, such as signing the "In God we Trust" motto while barring spending any money on implementing it. Very Clintonian.

Does this mean we have finally found one politician who was bought, and remained faithful to the dollar supplier? We need to watch and see what delse happens in this campaign as to what his real agenda is and what he might move forward in the future. Kudos to the man for standing up for the second amendment.

Not so. Richmond, Norfolk, and a few other liberal cities have put up "No Gun" signs at government facilities - it's just that VCDL hadn't gotten around to suing them into complying with the Dillon Rule yet.
