I have a question for any military person who can offer advice to my son.

He is graduating in June with a 4.0, in the Army Reserve, headed to boot camp immediately after graduation (he's a very bright, tough, and patriotic young man).

In the past few weeks, he has talked seriously about the possibility of a military career. He will be going to college second semester next year (tuition fully paid by the Army....thank you, President Bush!!). He doesn't know what his major will be, but by being both in the Reserves and college, he can take a dual track toward a career.

What I am interested in are opinions as to what may be the best course of action for him to become an officer, whether that be ROTC while he is in college, or some other method of achieving that end.

Obviously, this is just in the infancy stage, and I'm sure he will get plenty of advice from the Army itself, but I thought I might tap the great resource here at the USO, and get some opinions to be thinking ahead of time what he might do.

Thanks to anyone who can help!!!

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the ROTC route, IMHO. An engineering or Computer Science degree can't be beat.
The college training will give him marketable skills when his military career is over, and his military career will give him invaluable life skills. We all talk about Duty, Honor, Country. Courage, Integrity, Honor, Diligence, Judgment... The things that make him a man to be respected come to those who take their service seriously, and are willing to learn.
He sounds like he has his sights firmly set on an honorable goal...your best bet is to support him in his desires, and only nudge him a teensy little bit if you see him straying!
Out of curiosity, college there in Ohio? I contemplated Ohio State before the family moved to Phoenix.

I am not an expert on this, but I can tell you that the ROTC program is EXCELLENT! My (step)son is in the Air Force ROTC at the University of Oklahoma and he loves it. He plans on making a career of the Air Force. The ROTC really becomes a family and they are very supportive of the cadets. They watch their grades and get them help if they see that they are having trouble in any classes. They also give them discipline and guidance. (Although, I'm still waiting for him to learn how to make a bed and clean his room. I tried to teach him, I was hoping the Air Force could teach him. LOL) He really is having a BLAST!
