USO Canteen FReeper Style....Friday....March5,2002

USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

Hi Everyone!

I used to love watching China Beach. Does that count? I know it was probably silly, but I was very young then :) Have a great Friday!

I've done tours of the USS Silversides and U-505.
I'll never understand how they convinced men to go to war in those things.
Give your FIL a big "Well Done" from an old Grunt.

I know, today I'll let T Man post my movie list and take *all* the credit since he was kind enough to let me bask in *some* of the praise yesterday for his tremendous work on the style show. :)

I just did. You have surpringly good taste in war movies.

Also, don't sale yourself short. Your help was greatly appreciated yesterday and you earned whatever praise you got.  Remember, no contribution is too small. :-)

What a wonderful recap of your day, LadyX!
It made me feel like I was there!
I work every day on Ft. Huachuca, and the sights and sounds are similar to what you experienced. I'm sure if I ever have to move, I'll miss it as much as you seem to.
I'm so glad you got a chance to rekindle old memories, and now you know how easy it is do! Be like your new acquaintance from Hilton Head, and visit. Shoot, they might even let you become a 'visiting lecturer' for some of the classes there, again!

I actually had one person ( she's not worth naming) tell me that the guys are a bunch of 'pansies' for playing with dolls, and the women are 'silly minded' to be going along with it. LOL Funny thing, though....I gave her one and she uses it all the time. Go figure.

Well this comment ought to be good for another scathing email! LOL! We obviously have fun being pansies and silly minded - 400+ posts (as Tonk pointed out) in less than 12 hours ain't too shabby for a thread that's not about flaming!

I like the cowgirl best, too. : )

Well, maybe I can put her on one of those horses you sent! The white one - no, the white one's yours - I'll take the quarterhorse!

...plane dropped...bombs...one hit...didn't explode...

Dave, your Father-in-Law turned out to be one lucky son-of-a-gun, eh?
What memories....something to treasure down through the generations!

Oh SAM that is too funny because I made SOS for dinner last night, too. However, I now use a totally different recipe as Mr. Daisy won't eat that one. He was in the Air Force and had it frequently, need I say more.

Here is a much better recipe for you to try. It still looks like SOS but tastes so much better.

Ingredients:
5 oz jar of chipped beef
2 tablespooons butter
2 tablespoons flour
1 can of mushroom soup
1/2 cup dry white wine
3 ounce can of mushroom stems and pieces
1/2 cup grated cheese
1 tbspoon dry sherry

Directions:
Shred beef; put in mixing bowl and cover with boiling water; let stand for 3 minutes, then drain.
Melt butter in saucepan, add beef and sautee for 3 minutes.
sprinkle flour over beef and add soup and wine gradually. Stir constantly till thick
add mushrooms(drained) and cheese and stir till cheese melts.
Stir in sherry and serve on toast.

This is so easy and takes less than 30 minutes to whip up. You can substitue water for the wine if you are a teetotaller.

I know you are truthful. :) Hugs to you and go to the butterfly house and think of me. Sniff.....it's looking like we won't make it up there this year. Waaaaaa!! Honestly, my heart is broken. I have a niece graduating (they live in Maryville on the IL side) and we can't make it. Our trips to St. Louis every summer is the highlight of my year. This summer I had planned on taking my camera to Soulard at the crack of dawn to get some interesting photo's. Maybe next year.

Gotta get up and get busy. Company is coming.

Hug that baby for me. I love children so much. I can't have any more, so pictures of babies help me deal with it. LOL Put up some more when you get a chance. :)

I like being "silly minded". *giggle* But, I prefer to think of it as imaginative after all, in this cyber world I can be sexy, or a little girl,, or just plain ol me, all with the click of a button. *giggle*
