Va. Gov. Warner Vetoes Abortion Ban
Gov. Mark R. Warner vetoed legislation Thursday that would have banned a type of late-term abortion, saying it lacked sufficient exceptions for women who encounter problems late in pregnancy.
The measure to outlaw a procedure critics refer to as "partial-birth abortion" would have banned it "even if it would be safer than other procedures" to protect a woman's health, Warner said.
The bill resembled a 1998 Virginia law that banned the seldom-used, late-term procedure. It was voided one year later when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a similar law in Nebraska.

I blame the legislature. The GOP had a majority, and the GOP had a Governor (Jim Gilmore) was was staunchly pro-life, and he would have signed it.
Why do PBA bills only come around when Mark Warner is in office? This is bad timing on behalf of the the GOP. They had a chance to get this done under Gov Gilmore, but dragged their feet on it.
(I also notice that PBA bills went to President Clinton, but I have yet to see a PBA bill make it to President Bush. Why?)

Warners, Clintons and other assorted dirtbags are plentiful, and the 'RATS will always have one waiting for an opportunity. The blame for this lies with the GOP for running such a sorry campaign and thereby giving the 'RATS the Govenors office.

Gov. Mark R. Warner vetoed legislation Thursday that would have banned a type of late-term abortion, saying it lacked sufficient exceptions for women who encounter problems late in pregnancy. For informational purposes, the Amercian Medical Association says that late term abortion is never necessary. Whose health is this hurting?

Next election, ABORT WARNER
To: nralife
If we could just have given each unborn child a handgun then the carpetbagger would have been too afraid to veto this bill.
The Legislature needs to keep sending up more legislation to his desk on both abortion & firearms. Either we get our way & he signs or he shows his true colors and loses the lambs that he fooled last November. These will make wonderful calling cards for his Senate run.

Virginia governors are one-term, so he'll be aborted anyway.

Thank you very much for the *ping*
I noticed that the AP certainly did a fine job of slanting their reportage. I think they need lenses to correct their astigmatism. On second thought, they need surgery to correct their blind spot.

Next election, ABORT WARNER We have a one term limit for governors. Good, bad, or indifferent, next elections he's outahere. In two or three elections, though, the SOB may be running for US Senate.
