Q So what's the administration's response to the argument raised in this country, and certainly in the Arab world, that there has to be some promise, some hope, some prospect of political progress for the Palestinians to buy into a cease-fire?

Yes, the psychotic post-modern lawyer Terry Moran of ABC.

This was the most mealy-mouthed, eqivocal, and least factual press conference that Fleischer has ever conducted. Of course he and the Aministration know about the captured documents from Arafat's HQ. Of course they know the meaning of those documents, Arafat is up to the towel on his head in sponsoring terroriskm.

The Administration doesn't want to admit the truth of that statement, because then they would have to face squarely the hypocrisy of saving "both sides have to act to solve this problem." Both sides did not have to act to solve the Taliban / Al Qaeda problem.

It is a useful pretence that there is any "peace process" going on in the Middle East today. There is a war process, no more, no less. Since Push is unwilling, at this point, to admit that, Ari Fleischer had to lie, lie, and lie again in this press conference.

Of course the White House Press Corps is too historically ignorant really to pin Fleischer to the wall by asking him to distinguish the Middle East today from Europe in 1939, when Chamberlain proclaimed "peace in our time" as a result of the pact just signed with Hitler.

Odds are, most of the press would not know what the Munich Pact said, or who Chamberlain was, or why that was an abject failure that led directly to World War II. Heck, the only reason most members of the press know who Hitler was is they've seen him on TV recently.

This press conference was a disgrace all round.
