It was actually pretty cool looking, except for the frames of course. I like the flag background image along the top. Those horrid frames bring me right back to, well, 1996.
Here's the best part:
Version 1.0-R
This software is optimized for use with Netscape Navigator 2.0
LOL!

What Freerepublic.com looked like in 1996 Outstanding! Can we have it back?
To: big bad easter bunny
It was so easy back then.
Everything was black and white. Ah the good old days.

Very cool. If you click on the NEWS link on top, my old website will pop up. During that time, I attempted a Drudge knockoff site and JimRob was kind enough to make it his News link in the early days. After a while, I gave up the site because I just didn't have enough time in the day to do it justice.

that must have been Nov Dec 96... Cause by Feb of 97 something similar to what we have now was up and running. I remember trying to post an article without knowing a lick of HTML.. It was a disaster. Maybe 15 regulars and they were mostly prodigy refugees.
But I do remember that look.

Wow. Conspiracy theorists were encouraged back then. Where art thou Michael Rivero?
To: big bad easter bunny
This quote should read---mean...
"That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the constitution(people), by the constitution(people), for the constitution(people), shall not perish from the earth."
The constution is being changed---engineered incrementally by devilcrats!

Was he a regular contributor back then?
To: big bad easter bunny
I was a regular lurker then. No computer at home, could read but not post from work. Fone memories of the old crew, no one could make me laugh like then. Something about one Debs .38s vs. another Debs .44s and some Pharmer named Phil)
To those naysayers of the new format-I have the same thing to say to you that I have to say to Deep Purple fans that say Purple will never be the same with out Blackmore-Get over it and enjoy something new.

I like the picture they had Lincoln too wonder what the neoconfederate morons here would think if JimRob did that. I like the old look bring it back.

Thank you. I didn't find FR until October '98 through the Whitewater link on Drudge's site.
Had I known about it in '96, I would've have only had a 2yr. head start to my present addiction!

That was about the time I first stumbled upon FR while looking for the Clinton Death List. I had all kinds of time on my hands because my employer pretty much paid me to sit at my apartment and wait for my next job. I ended up working about 1 out of 3 weeks--still trying to remember why I gave that up.
