I love this site.I am a christian and huge follower and researcher of Israel and the events going on there..I wanted to know why so many of you on this board are Pro Israel...Its a great thing to coem to this site and see so much support for Israel...
This site is best online to find great fastttttt breaking news..I am news junkie :))))
I like their gun laws. {;o)
Right.
But I also believe it's because Israelites, Hebrews and descendents of Abraham became know as Jews in New Testament terminology.
The reason they use "Jew" to refer to the people was because that's where the tribe of Judah was at that time, and they were the only Israelites, Hebrews and descendents of Abraham around. There are other tribes than Judah and they were elsewhere. These other tribes were also Israelites, Hebrews and descendents of Abraham.
Even if this was true, it still doesn't rule out the possibility that these other descendents of Abraham are also Jews.
Besides, where does any of this tell us that the Jews are not God's chosen people?
I was taking issue with LostTribe, because he challenged another poster's claim that the Jews are God's choosen people.
I grew up in a town with a high Jewish population, and the brains in the school were mostly Jewish. That got my respect. I lived for a time on Miami Beach - highly Jewish - and I've seen the good and the bad, but the good was really good.
They have a fine work and family ethic. Look at what they have done in Israel. They have taken an arid land and made it green. They have become a community like no other in that region.
I don't think of them as an offensive people. What they are doing is defensive, and I heartily back them.
That doesn't mean that I'm anti-Palistinian. I am anti-terrorist, and I hate followers who follow blindly. The Muslim I've known were fine people, but what I see in the Middle East is just plain hate. I see determination in the Israelis - not hatred.
Why?
So He could make His statements airtight against interpretations that defy any normal use of the language?
If the writers if the New Testament, the apostles and Jesus used the terms Jew to refer to Israelites, the Hebrew race and descendents of Abraham...they obviously knew that this would give the distinct impression that the terms were interchangable.
Somehow I doubt if they wanted to confuse people.
It's more likely that they meant what they said.
A NT verse that would prove your conception of this issue would have go something like this:
". . .and Jesus spoke to the Jews..and both Jesus and the Jews refered to their being the descendents of Abraham as proof they were really Jews......
...but the Jews and Jesus made a point of letting everybody know that not all descendants of Abraham are Jews...just in case their conversation lead anybody to believe this."
LOL
Thank you. That is precisely my point.
I'd do an independent search on the subject before I fussed over it here.
Yes, that is exactly what I did. A searchable Bible and lexicon makes an excellent reference tool.
So it all comes down to whether one believes the Bible or not.
It really is amazing what all that American money can do, isn't it?
That's fascinating. And where do you stand on the Assyrians who wrote the tablets while the Northern Kingdom was there in residence?
Sorry, anyone this wilfully and woefully ignorant is not worth talking to.
Matthew 7:6 Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs.
Matthew 10:14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.
Shake shake shake.
Right, in the Bible the Jews refer to Abraham as their father as proof that they are Jews, but Abraham is not a Jew.
The writers of the New Testament, Jesus and the apostles refer to Jews as the descendants of Abraham, yet Abraham is not a Jew. Right.
Some of Abrams offspring became Jews 1,500 years later.
This reminds me of "gay Christians" argument that there was no such thing as a "homosexual" until the term was coined in the 20th century.
I was taking issue with LostTribe, because he challenged another poster's claim that the Jews are God's choosen people.
I don't think he was saying that. All I saw was an invitation to visit his FR home page. I think he was saying that Tribe Judah are God's chosen people, but more than Tribe Judah are God's chosen people. There were 11 more tribes dispersed. The big question is, where are they now?
Matthew 7:6 Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs.
Right. I'm sure God meant His word for your personal use... to call people pigs and dogs anytime you are unable to answer their posts.
I don't think he was saying that. All I saw was an invitation to visit his FR home page.
I saw this;
Gurn:"Because the Jews are the chosen people of my God"
LostTribe:"Where does it say that?"
Clearly he was disagreeing with Gurn that the Jews are the chosen people of God.
This is what I was taking issue with.
