The new site is pretty, but I agree that the sidebars were very useful.

I have a feeling with the thought police around here, your thread will be deleted.

Here we have about the millionth thread on this topic today.
Does anyone understand what RTFM or RTFD means?
I'm not usually a 'thread cop', but this is annoying.
To: stuck_in_new_orleans
I just noticed some instructions that tell you how to get them back. You go to a topic and look for the link on the left hand side that says "Click here to subscribe". That will add that topic to your sidebar.
RTFM, I guess.

I agree, this is horrible..
First, click "Topics"
Second, scroll down and click "Breaking News", or "Front Page".
Third, open "Breaking News" in a new window. On the left side of page of the "Breaking News" topic (in the gray area under the flag) click "Subscribe".
That should add Breaking News to your opening page.

You can have your sidebars back, but you have to do it yourself. Stop whining.

It took me less than five minutes to figure out how to find Breaking News. What the heck is wrong with you idiots?
You guys blathered when the old format was devised. You'll blather when the new format is replaced.
You come here and insult the guys that developed it all. You're as fickle as a two-bit wh-re.
I hope the management does begin to delete these threads. It's embarassing to think this many dum basses participate on the forum.

1) Go to the News/Activism forum.
2) Click on "Topics" at the top of the page.
3) Scroll down the topic list and find breaking news - click on it.
4) Look for the "Click here to subscribe" link - click it.
5) Repeat for other topics you would like in your sidebars.

New sidebar routine is not an improvement. And left column on news/analyis page takes up way too much space, forcing viewer into unnecessary scrolling.
To: stuck_in_new_orleans
The Topics are gettable, but the process is _way_ too cumbersome. Listing them all on one page, with checkboxes, would be much better.
I find the new heading font is hard to read. I say Take away the bold and make it larger, like before.
But the overall graphic design is nice.

It's always a mistake to let the art department design your website; you end up with lots of graphics and not much functionality. There are a few features of the new FR I like, like the local times, but basically I'm afraid you've put in a lot of effort to make the system worse.
We really need the old FR back.

I simply created links on my browser's toolbar to all the
forums I wish to view, and the only forums I "subscribe" to and have shown on the FR sidebar are News/Current Events and Breaking News.........
It works rather well............
