I just noticed some instructions that tell you how to get them back. You go to a topic and look for the link on the left hand side that says "Click here to subscribe". That will add that topic to your sidebar.
RTFM, I guess.
I did that and it only shows 5 freaken news item...5! Thats gotta change for me to stick around
