I woke up this morning and saw this new design, it made me think my world was crubmling apart.... I am going to have to see a psychiatrist and leave my religion behind because obviously my God hates me imposing such atrocity on me. My life is sooooo bad.

There was no reason not to set the defaults to mimic the old interface.

re the new format ...
"Who moved my cheese?"
Yuck, ewwww, yikes, bleeeech. I don't much care for the new format, but change is inevitable and I'll just have to adapt or find another forum from which to pontificate.

Yeah, I looked at the beta, too, and quickly decided to use the old interface.
If the switchover was ready to go, we should have had some time to acclimatize to the NON beta version.

I am with you. I don't like it at all. Space is being wasted and there is less words to read per page click.
I don't like the letter type. It is harder to read.
I don't see the breaking news list.
It has too much of a comercial quality like it has been bought out by Yahoo or something.
Please, lets go back to the old format!
To: smith288
I not only don't like it, I want to boycott it! Why change what worked? The tried and true was comfortable. I don't want to have to learn all this new stuff. Bring back the old and familiar and what was direct and to the point!!

The flag graphic is giving me a headache.

but change is inevitable
No it is not!
All I see is stars and stripes. I hope the medicine kicks in or I will need to move on to stronger stuff, like a double shot of whiskey. LOL

You can change your preferences to get new posts with headers only, as before.
The rotten trick I am complaining about is not making that preference the default.
Now the default is set to show the whole stinkin' post, and you have to go searching for a way to make it like it used to be.
Like you posted, headers only makes it easier to scroll trhough all the new posts.

your problem is a browser issue unless Jim turned off caching on the lates tpage, then it might act that way, but looking at the HTML, it doesnt indicate he is.

I agree, but that's the crux of my problem: I'm a complete trog when it comes to anything and everything FRED-related (FRED is the acronym I've given my computer, short for Frelling Ridiculous Electronic Device). I'm still having a hard time with basic HTML. And I keep Dummies books by the FRED out of self-defense. So simpler is better for me. But what the heck, where there's a will there's way, and I love this place enough to keep plugging away at it.

I started posting on FR in '98 and I had been lurking for quite some before
that and every time he upgraded and changed the format, I always said I hated it, I would never
get used to it, and I wanted the old one back. But just like any change,
eventually one sees the benefits and adjusts.
Actually, I'm beginning to like this one already.

I'm a trog too. Just so it's clear, I think if this new "nonbeta" version of the interface had to be implemented cold turkey, the least they could have done is set the defaults and preferences to mimic the old interface.
It would have made using the new tools much more fun and a lot less frustrating.

Dale, I think if you give it a chance and work with it a while, you may come to like it. It requires a certain amount of setting up, but once it's done, it is a much more individually customized Forum. If you have any questions, feel free to FReepmail me.

Yup, good point. And thanks for making it. I don't feel quite so alone now that I know I'm not the only trog around here :)

Okay, it's probably right in front of me but, how do I do a search for someone else? For example: if I wanted to look up all the things that 'smith288' had posted how would I do that? Click on 'SEARCH', then click on 'FIND USER CLICK HERE' (in maroon letters right at the top...can't miss it!)

But, the sun isn't under the yardarm yet!
Oh wait, its raining outside my window - that means I can't know if the sun is under the yardarm or not.
Jack Black, here I come ... :)
