I woke up this morning and saw this new design, it made me think my world was crubmling apart.... I am going to have to see a psychiatrist and leave my religion behind because obviously my God hates me imposing such atrocity on me. My life is sooooo bad.

thats what building and scripting web sites are all about. The end user, you pi$$ them off and you CHANGE IT. The old site was far more W3 compliant.

If theres a father out there looking on some crazy webTV hookup trying to get news on his kid in afganistan and its missed with...people will be upset. Trust me I know on that one. I was on phone for awhile this morning calming nervs that FR would be fast again.

I deal with this (web) on a daily basis and I love developing sites for IE 6 only when it applies. It doesnt apply here.

The other site was far more powerfull because of its simplicity in this type of interaction between people.

I admit, i looked at some of Johns code and it is U-G-L-Y. I was willing to just clean it up for John. It seems like he is bouncing from one thing to another... I think he needs a team or something to help him keep his head straight

i suggested to John a redirect for Webtv people that take them to the boring page and also give those old farts who hate change the chance to go there. I just think the histaria is nonsense. Everyone here doesnt have to pay a dime. Too many people think its a right not a privelage. Suggestions are good... whining rants about "This place sucks, im leaving!" kill me and im sure John likes hearing that after working his butt off. Those who bitch and complain like that SHOULD leave and try and pull a Lucianne.

I don't mind change if there's a reason for it and if it's an improvement. So far I find the new format more complex, less user-friendly and no particular improvement over the old one. I find it worse in some ways than the old one, especially navigation.

Just put me down as a conservative. It's the liberals who live for constant change and "pushing the envelope."

Don't worry, there are more people who believe that to be immediately enamoured of all changes is to confer on them the Spirit of Genuine Conservatism. The "new look" is okay once you actually get onto a thread.

Well, a day has passed. And I still hate the new format. Can't find my sent Freepmail, Breaking News has gone the way of the dodo, Latest Posts is MIA, Self-Search is somewhere out there in the ether. What a soup sandwich this is!

At least the flag watermark on the left side of the page has mercifully disappeared. The page loads a lot faster now, but that's like saying that I have the most finely crafted buggywhip in the world - a small and useless distinction these days.

My vote is cast. Rant (and whine) over.

The new version (as of 8 p.m. Pacific time, March 31) is great! We've got all the new technical features, together with the superb style we're used to (fonts, layout, etc.).
