Jack rabbits attack walkers in Sonoma County; man bitten, woman forced to evade jack rabbit

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP)

Sonoma County musician Doug Bowes will remember this Easter season as the one where he happened upon the Easter Bunny, and it attacked him.

Bowes was walking near his home at about 11 a.m. Wednesday when the attack occurred. A small, gray jack rabbit bounded toward him from a nearby fence.

``I thought, 'Gosh, this is somebody's pet,' '' Bowes said. He put his hand down in a friendly gesture and the bunny lunged and bit him.

Bowes began to walk home, nursing a sore hand with broken skin, but the rabbit followed him. A short time later, a nearby neighbor had to retreat up a hill after another aggressive jack rabbit forced her back.

Bowes had to get rabies shots and faces five additional vaccinations, though area health officials say it would be rare if the animal had rabies.

``If it were (rabid) it would make history,'' said David Yong, director of laboratory services for the county public health division. No rabbit has tested positive for rabies in Sonoma County in the past 16 years, Yang said.

Night of the Lepus (from IMDb.com...):

Giant mutant rabbits terrorize the southwest!!
Cole Hillman's Arizona ranch is plagued with 'mongrel' rabbits, and he wants to employ an ecologically sound control method. As a favor to college benefactor Hillman, college president Elgin Clark calls in zoologist Roy Bennett to help. Bennett immediately begins injecting rabbits with hormones and genetically mutated blood in an effort to develop a method of disrupting rabbit reproduction. One of the test subjects escapes, resulting in a race of bloodthirsty, wolf-sized, man-, horse-, and cow-eating bunnies. Eventually the National Guard is called in for a final showdown with the terrorizing rabbits.

(If we could train them to eat donkeys, we could... end the Democratic Party??)

suicide -- homicide

Yes, you've made an important distinction. Spot on, too. Sorry I overlooked that!

Yes, homicide bunnies now. But just you wait until they figure out how much more damage they can do if they strap on explosives. Be afraid, be very afraid. Watch for sudden surge in procreation and presence of baby bunnies in training.

Easter Bunny Bites the Sun God Worshipers.  Something like bowing down and worshipping Mammon or its Image...in time it will turn on its worshippers and demand blood in exchange for their souls.  So many know not what they serve.

Did it never occur to these people to step on the rabbit?

You wouldn't have to fit the rabbits with explosives... just some kind of virus (like the Hanta virus or something). I remember reading something about ancient and Medieval warfare, where diseased rodents and animals were cast into the enemies' wells, so as to poison their drinking water, or were catapulted over the ramparts of the enemies' fortifications, so as to spread disease. It could still be done today. Crude, and perhaps not too effective, since modern vaccinations would probably easily prevail... but, still..

Great! I think that "cow over the ramparts" scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail was the money shot of the whole movie! (or was it the sword fight with the knight getting all his limbs chopped off?? Or was it the Bridge of Death? Or was it... oh, you get my point ;)

These Easter rabbits could be attempting to administer their own double-toothed "Bite Mark of the Beast" as part of their "Night of the Lepus" return.

You know, come to think of it, that movie was a pretty excellent movie. Still holds up well even to this day. It was made before movies got all pretty-pretty with all that fake computer-generated hocus pocus, fake lighting, etc. Long live Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

I'd like to see that rabbit go after Andrea Yates in her jail cell, where nobody can hear her scream. Yes, I know that's wrong to wish a horrible fate on another human being, even if they killed 5 innocent kids, but I can't help it.
