A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 3/27/02

President Bush signed the controversial Campaign Finance Reform bill today as Mitch McConnell immediately filed suit against it. Bush later headed to South Carolina where he spoke to Emergency First Responders in Greenville. He also stopped in Atlanta, Georgia at the Georgia Tech Institute of Technology where he watched drills demostrating response to terror attacks. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

I truly believe that he signed it, warts and all to force it to the Supreme court and have it settled once and for all.

I agree with you. President Bush is compromising on some things, in order to get us moving in the right direction. Once we get control of the Senate AND Congress again, you will see more movement to the conservative side. A small move in the right direction is better than no movement at all. If he's too conservative before the 2002 elections, we may very well lose the house and senate and if we do, we can kiss any conservatism goodbye. Once we get control of all three branches of government, we can make some big changes, but remember we have to get there first. Because 20% of the country is ultra conservative and 20% is ultra liberal, you can see that most people are somewhere in the middle, with more leaning to the conservative side. Once we get the house AND Senate, move more to the right and people have two years to see how conservatism works better, we can move more right during the next four years.

About Campaign Finance Reform:

Most Americans wanted CFR (72%). So, what do we have?

1. Increased contribution amounts, which help Republicans more than Democrats.

2. Made 72% of America happy

3. Freedom of speech will be restored via the Supreme Court.

Seems like a win-win situation for our most intelligent President. He's getting it all while not making 72% of America angry at him. I'd say; "Yes, he knows EXACTLY what he's doing and I'm so very, very proud of him." Once again he has out-smarted the Democrats, McCain and other RINOs.

I cannot believe all the criticism. We believed in him enough to vote for him. Now we need to believe in him enough to know he's going to do what's right AND knows what he needs to do in order to accomplish that. Let's all SUPPORT HIM, for God's sake.

I think you had an extra t in President, like Presitdent but I don't remember exactly.

Man, did I declare nuclear war over on the President Bush statement on CFR thread. I've been much more circumspect until now, but the ones that are left in the Bashing fest over there are hardcore Clymers, so I really let go.

I think I'll go take another Sinemet pill now and go to bed.

Best to you, beloved Princess.

I don't see how after reading the Articles of the Constitution which set up the powers of the three branches-- which it could be argued are more important than the amendments added later-- it could not be seen that, short of an amendment, the line item veto is unconstitutional.

All it was was wishful thinking on Reagan's and the GOP's part. They played chicken with the Constitution because it suited their political interests. It's no different than CFR. The SCOTUS has ruled that some CFR is constitutional, so that requires SCOTUS to rule on this version of CFR. It's their job to decide that-- and it is their decision alone the people respect.

Reading the whole thread this morning reinforces my thanks for the raison d'etre of this thread: Pictures! When malcontents invade, please just start posting all our favorites.

John, your essay here is one of your best...among so many excellent ones. Please take the suggestion of someone above (sorry, this coffee won't last until I find the name and give him/her credit) and send it post haste to Rush so he can get back on the rails.

ALL: I really thank you all for the spirited defense of this decent and politically brilliant President. Loved the humor (needed that) and the defense of OUR Dose.

I guess I agree, tho it is hard to choose. John knows words well. And he puts together thoughts so wonderfully that his essays read a bit like poetry. Of course, it helps that so many of us agree with what he has to say....but that does not diminish his skill, only makes it that much more pleasurable to read!

I dunno if you guys happened to catch the absolutely FABULOUS segment on Bryant Gumbel's morning show this AM (Thursday), I myself never watch anything but FOX news and a few series from other stations once in awhile, but my hubby was watching it this AM and called for me to turn on the tube upstairs to see a segment so marvelous....so gentle and so loving I could not believe it.

It was a feature on the President's dogs. Even the cat was brought down for a looksee. It showed Spot and Barney and their activities with our President during the day.

It showed our President thowing a basketball out on the south lawn for Barney to push around and with tennis racket in hand, the President would hit balls for Spot to chase around on the huge lawn. It showed them all playing together-a typical afternoon break for our President (who was in a suit) before he retires to the upstairs abode for the evening. It showed many greetings between the pets and the Bushes after short separations, and it showed such love between the animals and the Bushes.

I did not know that Barney and the cat actually sleep with the Bushes, charming, and that Spot sleeps in a chair nearby at night. Not that anyone would care about this...but to those of us who love our pets, a warm tidbit of info, for sure.

The piece seemed to charm Gumbel at the end (I know-who cares!), which tells me that liberal creep at least has a heart.
